Sun Sign:
Quick Bio:
-mutt-pound dog

Birthday:
January 1st 2003

Likes:
chase the ball- hundreds of times - she never gets tired of it; jumping into the pool to chase after the ball - if we don't throw the ball into it, she will push it in with her nose and retrieve it. Loves to play with our neighbor's 3 dogs.

Pet-Peeves:
The Water Hose - Big Monster to be hated - Hide while you can is her motto! Same with the vacuum cleaner - the car - avoid a ride if you can !

Favorite Toy:
definitely her tennis balls ; also chewing the very hard plastic bones

Favorite Food:
Green dental bones are her absolute favorite - she will do anything to get one. Unfortunately, with all the bad things I heard about greenies lately, I am not giving her those any more.

Favorite Walk:
No walking - just running - through the backyard chasing the ball, then into the pool, then again through the yard and dirt, then through the dogdoor and out the patiodoors into the yard again - clean floor in the house?? A dream of the past.

Best Tricks:
Give paw - and then give other paw; she even does it when not asked for - just for fun - she will also do the commands "sit" and "lie down" but not for long.

Arrival Story:
Our previous dog, Schnuffi, a 90-pound, most wonderful shepherd-mix, had passed away after a stroke in March of 2003. It was very unexpected and heartbreaking. A few weeks later I decided to go to the pound to just look, just to see if we could rescue another one - We had brought Schnuffi home that way many years ago and it just seemed right to help another one -just looking - yep right.. Needless to say, I did not only look, but brought home Lexi - a dog no-one wanted - the last of a litter that someone had dropped off. She was feisty from the beginning, nibbling my handbag, jumping out of the make-shift crate in the car while I was driving and strutting around our backyard for the first time, as if it had always belonged to her. She's our little baby now and I would not trade her for the world - she's our energizer bunny, wild woman - I call her - a "never giving up" one and she always keeping us on our toes. She's also a cuddly one - she likes to first go wild and then snuggle up ... Her breed- who knows - she's definitely not a typical shepherd-chowchow mix, as she was claimed to be at the pound - definitely not by her looks and not by her demeanor either - I call her my "cat, deer, horse, shepherd, grayhound, hound, terrier, something many others - mix". She scratches like a cat, jumps like a deer or horse, is smart like a shepherd, lean and bony like a grayhound, hunts like a hound, and is small and feisty like a terrier, and is timid and scared like - I have no clue about that breed? And after that many other things.... She's just one of those dogs you cannot put your finger on - just our little one that we love.

Bio:
Lexi is an energizer bunny - she would be it. There are times when we jokingly ask - so, - where is the off switch? Can we take out those ever-lasting batteries for a little while -especially in the middle of the night ? She never gives up. She can play for hours and hours every day and never get tired. You can throw that tennis ball a thousand times, and she will still come back for more. She can jump into that pool after that ball and do it over and over and over. There is no end to it.... she just keeps going and going AND going. And on top of that she is very smart ! Tough combination and a constant game of the minds - who's smarter, will we outsmart her? ... But next thing you know - she cuddles like a baby, and wants all the love she can get - she's a challenge - but we love her and - we are up to it :) Update November 2008: Lexi is now almost 6 years ! Gosh, time flies.... she has settled, into a certain routine now. However, she's still the crazy, wild, skinny dog I brought home many years ago as a tiny puppy. She hasn't really changed with age. She's still jumping around like a deer, chases her tail at no end - every single day - just for the fun of chasing.... and then she just runs like a nutcase (or greyhound) around her own self-made tracks in the big yard ! With that said, she's also is a big cuddler when she finally rests. She's a mud and we love her for it. I hope she will be as crazy and wild like this for many more year....

I fell into the canal - unbelievable !

So it's August - it's very hot in Florida and daddy does still the ball throwing for me every evening. Only that evening, it fell into the canal - like so many times before - but it had rained and it was slippery. I ran right after that ball and when it fell into the canal - so did I !

Really, it's over-rated by mommy and daddy - it wasn't that bad -it was actually kind of fun and I got a lot of attention. I just swam around the canal, like I do in the swimming pool - with my ball rescued in my mouth - of course - and waited until daddy or mommy would drag me out of that smelly water. Daddy jumped right in and since the tide was low he went up one of those draining pipes that stick out and then kind of handed me to mammy who dragged me up to the top of the canal wall with my collar and voila ! I was out of the water and I still had my tennis ball --most importantly !

I really don't think it was that bad - it was like jumping into the pool - only that the water was a bit more smelly. Mommy and daddy think differently - they had to rescue me.

Oh well, for the longest time I held the record of being to only dog in the household never to fall into the canal - now I guess I'm not the recordholder anymore.

With that said, mommy and daddy hope, that I don't get a hang of it and dive after the tennisball everytime it falls into the canal. They say that it's no fun dragging me out of there - even though I'm only 30+ pounds.

When Bella fell in, they say, it was a very different story -draggin out a 110 pound dog out of a canal at low tide was much more difficult than draggin a lightweight out like me.Bbut it's still scary for them.

Good thing, mommy says, that we are not outside alone during the day. It confirmed for her, that neither me nor Bella are safe alone out there, and we are better off being monitored by someone at home when we are outside......

Lexi

PS: The aftermath of my fun fall into the canal was not so fun at all - I got a bath since I was stinky from the canal water - and I absolutely hate baths !!

Can I move to a warmer state? Florida is too yucky lately- ....

This is NOT Florida - it's been very cold, rainy, foggy or windy since New Year. It's no fun!Mommy and daddy hide inside a lot lately and I don't get my daily tennisball throwing anymore - it's been sporadic at best!!! With that said, I did open the pool-season already by rescuing my tennisball a few times when it fell in (well, actually when I pushed it in). It was nippy, but I needed to get that ball !

I'm a stinky dog? No way ... it's just perfume for me ...

So we have a lot of dead fish moving the last few days from the open sea into our canal and they gathered around the island at the end of the canal and just laid there - dead.
I guess, that cold weather in Florida was not good for them. They also somewhat floated over our seawall when the water was on high tide with seewead and other stuff. So there was a big fishy smell of dead particles on the ground with one small dead fish in our back yard. Mommy saw it, said to me that it was really sad and then was concerned that we may eat that. She wanted to take it away right then and there , but then reconsidered and was interested on how we would react and watched us for a while. Bella and I weren't interested at all. We just ignored that and looked at all the dead fish floating in the water. Then we went back into the house.

So mommy thought we would be ok with that UNTIL - I sat on her lap tonight after dark and she said I smelled absolutely horrible.... oh well, I don't eat dead non-cooked stuff, neither does Bella, but I sure like to role in that interesting smell of seaweed with fishy smell. So I did!

I threw my body into that smell, roled a bit in it and now I smell the same.
I have no problem with that at all, but mommy does - she says I'm ready for a bath.....Yikes ! And she said that tomorrow, any smelly stuff in our lawn will be removed... ohh, where's the fun in that ? No more smelly stuff to role in?
