Best Tricks:
Sitting, shaking, and laying down on a visual cues. Sleep magic to the 10th power. And, I actually fetch and retrieve sticks and balls (I want them to be thrown again!)

Arrival Story:
I was a Valentine's Day gift for momma. I was sad to leave my brothers and sisters, but I was right at home with momma, who let me sleep on her lap. I thanked her by putting her to sleep almost immediately. Nobody knew I'd grow to be so big! Not even the vet! At six months, I was 45 pounds. At eight months, I was 60 pounds. By my first birthday, I was 80 pounds. Now almost two years old, I've levelled out at 98 pounds. Now, 4/27/06, I weigh over 100 pounds!

Bio:
One of my husband's coworkers brought in a box full of these cute black and white pups on Valentine's Day. So, in a stroke of romantic genius, he nabs one, the "runt" of the litter. He calls me at work, and make sure I was going to be home right after work (I had a basketball game to cover that night). I smelled a rat, though a romantic one. So, I get home, and he's not there yet, so I hop on the computer and surf while waiting. He gets home, and walks into the computer room with a printer paper box and sets it in my lap. The small pup-squeak you see in the first pufferfish picture was its contents. All puppies are cute, but I'll be honest, this one stole my heart from the get go. The first night was a real bitch, as it was her first night away from her litter mates, but she calmed down pretty quickly (getting to nap and send massive puppy power sleep magic to me while curled up on my lap was part of that). Finding a name was pretty easy - she looks like Cookies and Cream ice cream.... hence, Cookie. We had NO idea what she was at first (quite literally as I though Cookie was a BOY), though we knew there was some black lab in there. As time went on, our favorite vet told us she really was resembling a great dane, of the Blue Merle variety. She also has a lot of the Dane's personality traits... and the size. Quite possibly one of the smartest puppies I've ever had - I had her sitting on visual and verbal commands just two weeks after my husband brought her home. She was laying down on visual and verbal commands a month after that. I had her walking on the leash at 2.5/3 months of age. And rolling over? Well, we're still working on that one. Absolutely THE best dog I've ever had. The first six months were hell as she wasn't sleeping through the night yet, but we discovered that we could wear her out by walking out at the nearby park several laps each day. We later found out that we were the only people who kept one of the pups from that liter. She's a great girl nonetheless and a heck of a lot of fun. She's older now, and starting to endure the troubles that old age brings, but she still has a good spirit, and loves to play.
