Bio:
rarf rescued Rufus from a kill shelter. We've taken him to small dog school where he has learned to sit, stay, come and almost down with the aid of food goodies. he does well at sitting at street crossings, but hasn't figured out how to look both ways for oncoming cars. Rufus is absolutely sure he belongs on top of our bed, both at naptime and bedtime. His other resting places are the couch where I usually sit and he is very sure that the desk chair (see picture below)is for him to observe life beyond the office. at the marina he is sure those squeaky noises are for him to explore. Rufus also is alert to the mailman by sound and notifies us of delivery. otherwise he is not much of a guard dog since we can walk in and out of the house without disturbing his naps. rufus will be taking his first cross-country flight in a couple of weeks and he shall join us in being bi-coastal; california to new york and back a couple of times a year. bought him a teddy bear. he carries it around with him upstairs and down, especially to bed and to sleep on sofa. rufus and teddy wait at front door rug together waiting for our return when we leave him! whoops 'them'! rufus survived 12 hours in kennel for trip to ny via chicago. it turns out that he loves petersburg. we have trouble to get him indoors for food or bedtime. he also loves car rides and insists on traveling with us even if we are only going shopping or to the dump. took him down to nyc last weekend, which he hated, nyc that is, barked at everyone there except for family and was ready to lunge and eat all other dogs he saw in person or from car window. back home he tried to "get" the electric meter man whom I had to rescue. The new picture shows Rufus being curious about a ceramic doggy cookie jar Michelle got at a tag sale. Since it is not a real dog he did not growl, bark or otherwise go berserk towards him.

Shortly after hristmas the next door neighbor children, Stevie Lee and Lania, and Mom, Linda, came over to search under tree for presents. And Otis, their big white dog came with them. Otis decided to come inside the house for the first time and boy did I love having a real pal inside the house. Otis explored the porch, my dog dish, the pantry where bones are kept and the living room. Then back to the porch where people were talking and playing. After a long visit everyone went home and I whined trying to keep Otis around! But he left with his family. A couple of days later I heard this big moaning, sort of barking sound out the window and lo and behold there was Otis inviting me out to play. B0y, did I jump at the chance and we had a great time rolling around in the snow. Now Otis comes over a couple of time a day to invite me out to play and sometimes he even comes inside for a minute or two, but not finding any of his family around, quick he is outside again. Otis, even as a puppy, was terribly shy, but he is become less shy around us, and Alice even was able to call him back from the road to play a little longer yesterday!

Christmas

Well, a whole bunch of people came up for the holidays, from Pennsylvania new little Molly Qin from China and Emma and Nora from New York City. They bought a big tree into the house, but did not let me get too near to it. They piled a lot of shiny stuff all over the tree and lit it up with many colors. The next morning there were mounds of packages all over under the tree and actually ONE FOR ME! It was a white stuffed dog with a squeaky inside. Boy was that great fun. Now I have two fluffies, my old teddy bear and the new dog. It IS difficult to cart both of them around at one time and I tend to lose one or the other from time to time. BUT BY THE TIME BEDTIME arrives, I have my small collection (includes squeaky orange ball) together at the foot of the bed.
