Arrival Story:
My name is Lady Zoe .. Zoe for short. I lived with young college students when I was a puppy who didn’t have time for me. I didn’t learn to get along with strangers and other dogs. I spent my time in a bathroom while they were gone. I didn’t get outside very much. At the age of 1 ½ they decided I was not a puppy and was too big for their small apartment so I had to go. They couldn’t find anyone to take me and It looked like iw ass going to the pound. Then a nice young lady heard about me and said her Mom and Dad would take me so I went to my new home. I was afraid of trash cans, plastic trash bags on front lawns, dumpsters, big trucks, parked cars, and lots of other things so I had a lot of problems. ~**~ At my new home I had Grandma, Grandpa, and their son, Bob. The nice lady that took me there was their daughter, Patti but she didn’t live there. They thought I was house broken but I wasn’t :o(. I came with my collar, leash, and a new squeaker toy that I chewed up within the first few hours. ~**~ There came a day when Grandma had to go away for about 4 hours. I won’t go into details but I was a naughty girl. On one of my bad days I chewed up the corner of Grandma’s kitchen cabinets. I chewed off the front of drawers and I chewed what was in the drawers. I chewed up very important things and made messes on the floor :o(. Grandma would cry and say, “What am I going to do with you?” and then give me a hug. ~**~ Grandma took me to K-9 training classes where I learned to walk along side of Grandma, sit, stay, down, come, and to stay down with a treat by my side without going for it until I was told I could and a lot of other neat things. I passed and have my certificate. Grandma, Grandpa, and Bob were very proud of me. ~**~ I still didn’t like to be left alone so they got me this nice pen to put downstairs so I wouldn’t chew up things. I was given lots of my toys, treats, food and water but I would stand in the corner and pant and slobber all over. Grandma had to clean up every time I was left alone. Grandma decided to stay home and take me and she would take me in the car when she went shopping. I liked being in the car. ~**~ Then Grandma and Bob took me to the Vet for my checkup one day and we talked to this nice lady that told them about Clicker Training. Grandma worked with me and would take me for walks. When she would click and I knew what she wanted me to do. ~**~ Grandma taught me that it was OK to be alone and I was left to run the house again. Grandma learned about these neat toys that she puts treats in so I have to work at it to get them out. Now when she goes away I stay home and find the treats that she hides around the house along with my treat toys and I am AOK! I still am afraid of strangers but I have met a few people that I will let get close to me. So, I am getting better but I still don’t trust strangers. ~**~ Grandma and Bob take me to the pet store -- Pet Supplies “Plus” --- so I can walk around and see other dogs and people. I still don’t like people but I will say “Hi” to other dogs now. Because I was such a fussy eater Grandma and Bob were looking for some dog food that I would eat. She started to talk to Kathryn Mills who is a Pro Plan and Pro Club Representative. She helped Grandma find some food that I would eat. You can see her with me in the pet store. I have gotten to know her a little and now I go to her to say Hi when we see her. She has been a great help to my family. ~**~ I know that my family could have given me back and I would have ended up at the dog pound. I know my family loves me and even after Grandma had new kitchen cabinets put in her kitchen because of me ~ she loves me too. ~**~ I am still learning new “good” tricks. I bring my bone ball (Kong Biscuit Ball) when ask and drop it in their cupped hands so they put bones in it for me. I perch my paws their arms when they want me to stand up and talk to them. I sing with Grandma to and talk to her when she is on the phone. Grandma wants to teach me to put my toys in my toy box. I will pick each one up and drop it in her hand now so I am working on that. ~**~~**~ Pictures : I just perched on Bob’s arm to tell him I wanted the bone he had and the other picture with Bob is my first visit to the pet store. ~ I am snuggling with Patti. She is their daughter the nice lady that brought me to my new home. ~~ I am in a picture with a little girl sitting in a chair. I have my very favorite thing... a BIG HAM BONE ~~ I am with the nice lady who is the Pro Plan and Pro Club Representative. She has been a big help and has become our family friend. ~~ Lady Pup is pictured with Grandma’s old computer when they had AOL. She was the baby they had before me. Lady Pup was “SPECIAL” and now I AM SPECIAL TOO!!
