Likes: From mommy: People, dogs, kitties, & watching Animal Planet on TV (she will zone out)
Pet-Peeves: Having to listen to mommy.
Favorite Toy: Mommy's body, especially her fingers and toes.
Favorite Food: Nibbling on blades of grass as mommy and I walk.
Favorite Walk: Anywhere, everywhere, and any time.
Best Tricks: I can take a piece of kibble out of mommy's mouth without hurting her.
Arrival Story: Mommy adopted me from Helen Woodward's Animal Center (a no kill shelter) at ~ 5 months of age. They rescued me from a high kill shelter in Tucson Arizona. Prior to that I was in Washington DC. I think that they wanted me to either be a bomb dog or a drug dog, but I'm way too sweet for either job, and glad that I didn't have what was needed. I lived in three states before I was 5 months old.
From mommy: Hope has never growled or shown teeth (unless she is sleeping upside down). She is an excellent watchdog, very sweet, and she is super alert. Sometimes, I think she is made from rubber bands and springs.
Bio: From mommy: Hope had a very bad UTI with crystals when I adopted her. She was on several antibiotics for months before the UTI went away. She probably spent most of her earlier days in a crate holding her pee. Now she eats only Science Diet CD dry and is doing very well.
From me: I have mommy wrapped around my dew claw - BOL
Forums Motto:
Mommy had to increase my oral estrogen from 1 pill every seven days to every 1 pill every five days because I started leaking peepee again when I am asleep. I love my mommy lots.
Mommy took my peepee to the vet for testing. After 1 week of eating nothing but canned Science Diet SD, my pH is now 5.0 and my UTI is completely gone. Bye bye UTI!
I can start eating my dry Science Diet CD kibbles tonight, and I can have as many Science Diet CD "cookies" as I want.
Mommy is also going to start me on Estrogen tonight to help strengthen my bladder muscles so that I don't drip peepee when I'm asleep. It will also stop the germs from getting into my bladder which could cause another UTI.
I just finished 2 weeks of very expen$ive antibiotics (a BIG purple pill called Baytril twice a day) for a UTI (my second).
Mommy saw blood in my peepee (2 weeks ago) and rushed me to the vet (such a good mommy).
Ever since my first UTI (when I was only 6 months old), I've only eaten Science Diet CD (dry) mixed with water. My treats (cookies) are really Science Diet CD kibbles.
Anyway, when mommy took a sample of my peepee to the vet this morning, we found out that the pH is still too high at 7.0 (but the infection is gone - no more Baytril), so now I have to be on canned Science Diet SD for a week to get the pH down to 6.2 - 6.4.
The vet told mommy not to give me anything else - just the canned Science Diet SD. Mommy can't even give me my treats when we walk. I can only get NOTHING.
