Nicknames:

Quick Bio:

Likes:
Going for walks in Queretaro, the most beautiful of Mexican cities. Playing with his brother Tristan rates high on the list, as well. especially if they can 1) dig a hole together or 2) pull laundry off the wash line.

Pet-Peeves:
Cats, who stare at him with indifference from across the way.

Favorite Toy:
A hula hoop (orange); a squeaky rubber bone; any ball.

Favorite Food:
Eukanuba, enhanced with bacon grease.

Favorite Walk:
The Plaza de Armas, The Plaza de Armas in Queretaro, which has a famous dog fountain. We both look at it admiringly every time we go by.

Arrival Story:
When I was living in Guanajuato, Mexico, my next door neighbor's dog had her third litter (!), most of which were guaranteed for extinction. (A dog's life is not worth much in Mexico.) I decided to save the smallest, runtiest one of the litter. With good food and love, he grew up to be the biggest of his 11 brothers and sisters, most of whom, alas, are now no longer with us.

Bio:
Although born in Mexico, Porfirio lived for three months in New York City, next door to the famous Dakota apartment building. Whenever we'd go for a walk in Central Park, we'd pass by the Dakota entrance (where John Lenon was shot) and people would say, "That's a beautiful dog! What race is it?" We, Porfirio and I, would draw ourselves up tall and reply, "Un perro callerjero mexicano" (A Mexican street dog). "Never heard of that breed, before," they would answer. "It's very rare," I'd say. Later, we spent seven days, driving back to Mexico from New York City. Porifirio sat in the back seat, and stared out the back window all the way. Each time we crossed in a new state, we'd stop and take a photo of Porfirio by the sign that said, "Welcome to Alabama" or "Welcome to Texas," as proof (for his Mexican dog friends) that he had been there! (Porifirio liked the smell of the Welcome to Virginia sign the best.)
