Arrival Story:
I volunteer for a dog trainer, who received a call from a woman with just a few concerns about her dog. I felt they could easily be handled, but she was still unsure. I said, "Hey, if it doesn't work out, I'll take her." Duh!!! She called a few days later and didn't even want to try, so I got Sassy from her. I am her 3rd owner. It's a good thing I found something that she's good at, otherwise the only other reason I found that she could exist in life is just to annoy me! She is very energetic, and a terrier through and through. By far, the most amazing, entertaining dogs I've ever met. I always tease about what a pill she is, but she's a sweetie, and I love her to pieces. By the way, she came with the name Sassy, I wasn't the one to give it to her, but she has sure lived up to it.

Ok, maybe that is a bit of an exaggeration. I was on a local news show last week though, and I’m going to be on TV again in the Southern California area. People seem to be really curious about the work that I’m training to do (Specific Scent Discrimination Training), and the work that Mom and Aunt Kat do (pet detectives). We try to help people find their missing pets. It takes a lot of hard work, and a lot of patience. Aunt Kat has been doing this for years; my mom is kind of new at it. Mom got filmed for an upcoming segment on “The Today Show” where she was using Kody to find a missing snake (it wasn’t REALLY missing, they just pretended). Today Aunt Kat, Hardin (that’s Susie’s Dad), Susie and Mom all went to help a woman find her missing cat. They stayed and helped for 2 ½ hours, but didn’t see the kitty. They’re pretty sure, and they really hope that she is in the garage hiding and scared. Did you know a cat will hide for days, and days, and days before they’ll meow, or get hungry enough to come out of hiding? Isn’t that amazing? Susie alerted in the garage, so they think Sesame might be hiding in there after he accidentally was let out of the house by a painted. I hope Sesame’s mom finds him soon; they gave her lots of ideas on how to find Sesame.

If you want to learn more about today’s search, you can read about it from Susie’s point of view in her diary. (I only know what Mom told me). If you’d like to find out more about being a Pet Detective, or learn more about Missing Animal Behavior, you can check out our new website at http://www.lostapet.org

Book Signing at Health Mutts

12/10/05 Today my human took me to a book signing event at Health Mutts where she gets all our treats. Aunt Kat (Kat Albrecht the founder of Missing Pet Partnership) was there signing books for people. I met so many wonderful people and smelled a lot of new dogs. Most of the dogs were my size, I was amazed that some were even smaller. One dog came in that was really REALLY big. He barked at me, and I was very polite and just turned and walked away. Health Mutts had great treats for all the dogs that came in, and they even had samples we could try. It was a fun day, and my human bought me a new collar and even got me to wear a Santa hat for a little while. Everyone came up and wanted to pet me, and we even gave them some of my trading cards. I love going out in public and meeting new people, and dogs. Cheeto the cat was there too! He got into more trouble today than I did! You can see photos of Cheeto on Catster.com
I'm tired after my day in the public eye, so I'm going to lay on the pillow in front of the fire. It's hard being so cute.

Good for Mom

I'm writing because my mom did a really good thing yesterday. She does a lot to get lost pets back with their owners. I'm in training to help her do this, and I think it's a lot of fun, but it's serious work too. Yesterday in the morning she discovered the neighbor's dogs had gotten out of their yard. She spent over 90 minutes out in the cold trying to get the dogs back into their yard. During this time she got one in, but not the other one. He was really scared and wanted in the yard, so Mom stayed with him until his mom could come home (my mom called her at work). I'm proud of my mom, and I hope that if you ever know or see of a dog that is lost, you'll look at our website and get some information on how to help that dog. Remember, they could just be scared of you and really not mean, just like that dog my mom helped. Someone somewhere loves them! http://www.lostapet.org

P.S. The neighbor and my mom fixed the fence so it doesn't ever happen again. I'm glad, that dog is way bigger than me!

P.S.S. I'm really not that Sassy, I'm just really misunderstood.

woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof!
Sassy
