Mom told me today that we are going to Alaska! She said we are going to Skagway for the summer. Any of you in Alaska, give me a shout! We would love to make new friends when we get there. See you in May.

Gilligan or Gillie to his friends

In October Mom decided it was time to find me another buddy to play with. You know, when she had just gotten me she got Palmer too and he lived with us for a year or so. So since I grew up with a pal, Mom has always figured that I would like to have a pal to play with.

Mom got on her computer :( (I don't like it when she is on the computer) and searched something she call the Internet. When she did that she found Gilligan (or Gillie) at a rescue organization in WA. The rescue group was a general group and did all kinds of dogs. She wrote them a message and told them about me and sent them to my web page! Do you know, they wrote back the very next morning and were real excited about Gillie coming to live with us! In fact, they were sending some dogs to Portland that afternoon and offered to send Gillie along. Mom was real surprised, but said okay. So, that night we went and got Gillie from the transport lady.

When Gillie came to live with us they told us he had lived with a breeder and was used as breed stock, whatever that is! Somehow his coat had gotten real matted and they had to shave him, but his hair grew out soon. The problem with Gillie is that he didn't understand that he was supposed to go to the bathroom in the back yard, not in Mom's house. Mom kept getting mad at him and then when she went to work she started putting both of us in the study and closing the door. She did that because she put the doggie door in the way of the study and we could come and go when we wanted.

But you know, by doing that I got upset! I couldn't run around the house and see out like I like to. I had to go outside to see what was going on. Then I started barking and got into trouble with the neighbors!! Then Mom got in trouble because we live in a "community" that has rules. What are rules???

But back to the story. Even though Mom put us in the study while she was at work, sometimes Gillie still would not go potty during the day, and when Mom got home from work, he would go somewhere else in the house and drop his pile. This made Mom really mad. Mom even tried using diapers on Gillie. You know, doggie diapers that have a whole for your tale. Gillie hated them but was afraid to pull them off. He never dumped in the diaper, so when Mom would take the diaper off so that Gillie could go potty, sometimes he still did it in the house instead of going outside. Mom got more and more upset, but when Gillie was good (going potty outside) she would love on him hoping he would figure out how to get love. But then he bit the Schwan's man!

That was the last straw! Mom got back on her computer and found a "rescue" organization that would take Gillie and find him another home. Mom had to wait a week to take Gillie there, but we made a party of it. Mom had to drive to Seattle to take him to rescue, so she put both of us in the car and got her girlfriend, Linda, to go with us and we made a fun trip out of it. We took Gillie to the lady with the rescue first, then we drove some more, and we stayed in a motel that night. It was so fun! I got both Mom and Linda all to myself.

Mom has decided that it is going to be just us from now on. Of course, we have gone through other "pal tries" and she has said after some of them, no more, but then changed her mind again. This time though, I think she is serious. I sure hope so. When I want to play she plays with me and when I want love she gives it to me. So, life is real good. I'm a happy baby.

I asked Mom to tell this story so that if others are wondering about getting pals for their babies, they might think about it first. I've asked Mom to tell the other stories and she has promised to do them. But, she said it takes time to tell these stories, so they will come later.

Happy reading,

Dylan
