Arrival Story:
Met a guy on a ski lift at powder mountain. He had me sold by the end of the lift. Best decision I ever made.

Ruger is retired. He served for 10 years with Rocky Mountain Rescue Dogs. He is one of two dogs that have located a downed aircraft and the people who died in the accident. He ruptured a disk when he fell into a sandstone pit. He fell 15 feet onto the only sand in a solid rock basin. He continued to work for 3 more years and had his aircraft find during that time. He passed his level 3 avalanche test right before I forced him to retire. After his surgery he did not walk for 6 months. The doctor said that if he did not walk after 6 weeks, he never would. I ignored everyone who said to put him down, and one day he struggled to his feet. He has been unstoppable ever since. Ruger played in the Made for TV movie "The Visitor" which aired in 1997. He could keep up with me and my friends while we were backcountry snowboarding. He kayaked class 3 rivers with me for 8 years. He ran 8 miles with me to school for 4 years. He is everything good that is a shepherd and nothing bad. My only regret is that I never had a puppy from him to continue his amazing legacy. I have never found another shepherd like him. He has saved many people in his time, but mostly, he saved me.

I had to leave last week and its been hard, but I sure do love running again. I spent so much damn time in that wheel chair that I thought it was following me. I sure miss my best friend. He took me everywhere in life and loved me. I hope he's ok without me, he is kinda a needy guy and I sure hated leavin' him alone. I showed him how much I loved him everyday, and I watched him change from an unruly boy. I saved his can more times than he knows. Once I saw him flirtin' with this total nasty skank, so I jumped up on her. He thought I was mis-behavin, but it was a small price to pay to see her run away. He was a pretty good friend tho. We spent so much time chasin' varmits. He always thought we were lookin' for people, but they aren't as much fun. Took me quite a while to train him too, but it was worth every second. Eventually I got to sleep whenever and where ever I wanted.

Ruger, I'll miss you more than you will ever know. Thanks for loving me and taking care of me for 13 1/2 years. I miss you......
