Leave a bone for Yuka (yoo-ka)

Nicknames:
ukelele, sweet girl, stinky, yuka-monkey, ragamuffin, smidgen, sweet-pea...

Quick Bio:
-purebred

Likes:
cuddling (she can't get close enough), and playing chase.

Pet-Peeves:
big one: being awakened when she's sleeping (Dr. Jekyl / Mr. Hyde thing going); also runs away from charging unfamiliar kids who of course all want to squeeze her.

Favorite Toy:
a dirty sock for tug of war; a tissue she can shred to pieces; any plush toy.

Favorite Food:
believe it or not, coffee -- she won't be happy until she gets a sip (just a sip), and chicken - she knows both words *very* well.

Favorite Walk:
the park (we have to spell out p-a-r-k or she'll sprain something jumping for joy -- we think she's learned to spell.)

Best Tricks:
she does "ballerina" (a little pirouette or 2.)

Arrival Story:
It goes againt my personal philosophy about catering to pet stores, but one Christmas eve, after we expected to adopt a pup and it didn't go through, feeling quite forlorn we entered our local pet store. It was abounding with sprightly little bichon & maltese puppies, all healthy and eager to please - none of them would have a problem finding a home. I was going to be satisfied with an eyefull, but on my way out I noticed one tiny puppy all by itself, smashed against the back of a cage, with its back to everyone. They said hastily, "we'll give her to you at 1/2 price." I asked what was wrong with her, knowing about the pet store/health issues, but they said she was older than the others (5 months) and would "be sent back soon." She shook when I held her, that probably turned people off - but she had the sweetest expression. She was physically & emotionally scarred from life so far in the puppy mill and the store (she had ear mites, as well as a bite on her ear). She was definitely the runt of the litter, and has grown to only about 8 pounds. She's the most adorable, embraceable litte animal we love intensely. She remains cautious in general and very particular, but likes other people and dogs, though she's a bit of a tease. She's happiest when getting double tummy rubs by the two of us - we adore her.
