GREAT News!!

This is Bubbles' Mommy....sorry for the delay in updating Bubbles' diary, but it's been a busy week. The good news is that Bubbles came home last Saturday from her extended stay at the vet due to her kidney issues. At first she was still a little lethargic, but as a few days passed she started to seem like her old healthy self again!! We had a follow up visit at the vet's office on Wednesday and we learned that her BUN level had gone down all the way to 58 from a high of > 100 during her hospitalization. That's not yet normal, but the vet feels she WILL make a full recovery. She has a special diet (Mommy is cooking for her) and needs SQ fluids 2x/week for now.

We both want to thank the DOGSTER community for all the well-wishes, gifts, and especially the prayers.

UPDATE on Bubbles -- and thanks to all so much

This is Bubbles' Mommy....thanks to everyone for the Rosettes, well-wishes, and prayers. Thanks to Dogster too for featuring yesterday's diary entry asking for prayers.

The news is a little encouraging today. BUN increased a little since yesterday (but only a little. All other factors are back to normal. She's eating and peeing, so that's good. They're going to keep her and continue the aggressive IV fluid treatment...hoping its something that just needs to be flushed out.

Dogster Friends, please say a prayer for Bubbles

It's been a rough 4 days for my little sweetie...the next 24 hours are CRUCIAL.

Things started to go downhill quickly Saturday night. She seemed fine all day, then she just started vomiting several times after Daddy and Mommy went to bed. We called the vet; she said to give her 1/4 Pepcid tablet. Normally, we tuck any medication inside a Pill Pocket (which she normally loves) but this time she wouldn't touch it. We also tried peanut butter and bread with no luck. She wouldn't even eat any treats, and she NEVER refuses treats. We finally got as much of the Pepcid in her as we could.

Sunday morning, Mommy woke up to find a large pool of liquid diarrhea in the hall right outside the bedroom. Called the vet again; she said to give her 1/4 Immodium tablet...same struggles as with the Pepcid overnight, but we got most of it in her. Throughout the day she seemed to be getting increasingly lethargic, so we decided to take her to the vet first thing Monday morning.

The vet said she was extremely dehydrated and started an IV and took some blood tests. We visited in the afternoon and she looked a lot more alert after just a few hours of IV fluids. An ultrasound was scheduled for Tuesday to determine whether there was any kidney or liver damage or obstruction of any kind.

Tuesday afternoon, we felt really optimistic. Before the ultrasound, the vet suspected that the problem was multiple kidney stones over a long period of time that may have caused yet-undetermined damage. After the ultrasound, the result showed only ONE kidney stone and not too much damage. They expected she would be able to come home today after doing some tests in the morning.

The test results were not good: her BUN numbers almost doubled after they tried to wean her off the IV so they could determine if it's safe for her to come home. They now suspect that her kidneys are failing. They're pumping her up with fluids today to try to flush anything out of her system that may be causing this, and they will do another blood test in the morning (tomorrow). If the results of that blood test are that the BUN numbers continue to increase, there is probably not much more they can do for her

I AM BEGGING THE DOGSTER COMMUNITY TO PLEASE SAY SOME PRAYERS FOR MY BABY. I love Bubbles so much...I know everyone reading this knows how I feel because we ALL love our dogs. Thank you so much for your prayers in advance. I will update tomorrow when I know what the test results are.

Dog of the Day: I'm sooooooo excited!!

Mommy says Dogster named me "Dog of the Day" for today!! I'm really honored!! I've been getting lots and lots of notes and cool gifts from many of my friends already this morning. Thanks to all!!

My family and I just got back from a loooooong vacation. We were gone for a whole week! I enjoyed riding in the car though. To be honest, I slept almost the whole way there and back. "There" being Ohio. I live in a family of crazy football fans and they all went to the NFL Hall of Fame induction. Tonight is the first pre-season game for my Mommy's favorite team - GO COWBOYS!!

Doggone it!!

I just got back from the vet, and he says I am a Porky Yorkie. I'm going to need to lose some weight over the next 5-6 months. Mom has to cut back on my treats a lot and a little on my canned dog food. WAAAAAAHHHH!!!!

Mom found time to put up a couple of new pictures of me, and she also added some pictures she found of Tricia, who is in my family -- but unfortunately she went over the Rainbow Bridge before I was born. :(

Wow, things have been very busy at my house this month! The twins had a birthday (18!) and both graduated from high school last week. And yesterday was my Mom and Dad's 30 anniversary!!
