His owner died. The paramedics came to remove the body and he was there guarding the body, and bearing his teeth. One of EMTs (a friend of mine) coaxed him into the other room and then called me. I said that I would come by and take him after work. The family decided they couldn't wait and called Animal Control who decided that a snare pole would be the best way to get a 15 lbs dog. He went ballistic (and he couldn't bark for nearly 6 mos.). It took me a couple of months for me to convince AC that he was traumatized and not a dangerous dog. When I got him, he really bared his teeth and snapped at anyone, especially men. But after working really hard with him, he completely changed.
He is very affectionate. He's right next to me in bed and the one who licks me awake in the morning. When I come home, he wimpers until I pick him up and hug him. He guards me with his life, though, and still needs my okay before accepting strangers.
Bio:
"Bisli" is a snack food in Israel. Everyone thinks that's what I named him for. It also means, "Let me have a bite!" I'll let you decide ;-)
