Arrival Story:
My husband drove semis and was gone for weeks at a time, the previous year someone had stolen my dog Lady from our yard and my cat was hit by a car when a roomie left the door open. I'd had them for 11yrs, so I was very upset and finding live w/o an animal companion very hard. While he was stuck in AR for repairs he drove to several of the pounds trying to find a dog I might like. At the last one he found 2, a Chihuahua and a Yorkie pup. The Chihuahua didn't bark but was very curious about my hubby, so my hubby picked him. The pound usually makes new owners wait 3 days and never lets animals to out of state residents. Sam was going to be put down the next day so they waved the rules for my hubby. My husband didn't tell me he got me a dog when he called that night, he just said he found someone who wanted to live with us. I thought he was bringing a person home-and freaked out. When I went to pick him up from the terminal 3 days later I was really angry with him--until I climbed into his truck and saw the most perfect dog ever. We had Sam until June 21, 2005.

When we first got Sammmy Sam, he was very weak, he had been at the pound for a full year when my hubby found him. His previous family got him because they liked the idea of owning a dog. It was the reality of pup parenting that they couldn't deal with, they even had his vocal cords scraped so he couldn't bark very much. They weren't unkind to him and he was cared for physically which was evident by the extensive medical records they gave the pound when they dropped him off. He was very shy of me and the kids when he 1st came home and got very upset when my husband left. He warmed up pretty quickly when he realized all the dog toys in the house where for him. Our vet even said she'd never seen a dog regain strength so fast (he loved to chase the kids around the house). The boys even taught him to play cops and robbers. He was the robber and they'd chase him around, then turn and he'd chase them, ect until they would yell freeze. Then Sam would stop in his tracks, when the boys would say bang he rolled onto his back and would cough-once-then close his eyes. Sam lived with us for approx. 9 months before he sacrificed himself to save me and my kids from an attacking pitbull. According to state law, since it's the pitbulls 1st offence I can't fight to have it put down. The pitbulls family happens to breed Chihuahuas and has arranged for me to get a new dog, which is of little consolation, but I don't do well w/o an animal companion. The pups will be born after Thanksgiving and I will be able to bring my new puppy home sometime around X-mas or New Years, and I get 1st pick from the litter. Then I will dedicate this site to the new puppy.

Sam's ma here, Tuesday Dec. 13th at 6pm I brought my puppy home, while (very) upset that she is much younger than I would have liked I'm still thrilled she's here. Now if only I can think of a name for her.

Well mommy got a knock on the door about4 days ago, it was the woman whose dog attacked us and set up the new puppy deal. She said they were born, but she hadn't been able to get a hold of mommy. So mommy walked down with her to the breeders house and got to choice between 2 males and 2 females. Both males looked like little cows, all white with black splatches on them, cute but I just didn't feel like they'd be right for her. The first female was fawn colored with a dark spot on her head, she was nice, but kept biting mommy-well I wasn't about to stand for that. The other female was more my type, black (like me) with white on her feet, muzzle, neck and tail tip with brown sideburns. She snuggled right up to mommy; mom got a big sniff of the puppy and asked if they had been bathed recently. The breeder said no; that's when mommy knew that this was her puppy. She smelled just like me after mommy gave me a bath in that fancy shampoo she had. Mommy's not a big believer in fate or anything like that, but she knows now that I'm looking after her even if I'm not with her physically. Mom laughs when she tells people this story because she swore she wouldn't get another black dog, well I showed her!
