Arrival Story:
Clarence came into the clinic where I worked after having been runover. His owners waited a month before they brought him in though cause they were hoping his leg would heal on its own. When he came in all of the bones in his foot were smashed and he had a severe infection. After the infection was treated his owners were told that his leg would have to be amputated due to the nerve damage which prevented him from using his leg properly and the fact that the bones were beyond repair. By this time the muscles in his shoulder had begun to atrophy and he began to develope a sore on his leg from where he dragged it while trying to walk. His owners never came back for him and he was fixing to be euthanized due to the fact that he was physically handicapped and in pain. Clarence had also developed mange. He had probably been exposed and the stress cause him to develope symptoms which had been hidden previously. I decided to take him home for the weekend to see how he would do with my other critters. I quickly decided he would adjust to living with cats and he became mine. At that time I was unsure if he was staying or if he would be a foster. By the time he healed from his amuptation I had fallen in love and Clarance is here to stay.

Bio:
Initailly Clarence was named Boss, but that name does not fit him at all. I wanted to name him something that fit his personality better and reflected the fact that he is missing a leg. I love Westerns and thought of nameing him after Hopalong Cassidy. Hopalong is to normal for a tripod dog though and Cassidy just doesn't fit. However Clarence E. Mulford orginally wrote the Hopalong Cassidy series and even though I'm not keen on the name Clarence it fits him to a T and I can't imagine him being anything but Clarence now.

I am full of love regardless of how I am treated. I loved my other owners, but have come to realize they didn't know how to care for me properly. They accidently ran over me and broke my foot and caused some nerve damage. They waited over a month to take me to the doctor and when I finally received medical attention I had an infection which needed to be treated before anything else could even be assesed. My old owners cared for me in their own way, but I think they had to make a financial decision and decided they couldn't care for me. Unfortunately they left me at the clinic with a bum leg and a death sentence. Thankfully I was able to sucker one of the techs into taking me home and continuing my medical treatment.

My new mama had my leg amputated and had planned on getting me a much needed dental and tutored (whatever those are). Unfortunately the amputation took to long, and the doctor wanted to get me off the anesthesia. Although I haven't even noticed that I've only got three legs now. I can still hang in there with the big boys. Mom plans on getting me tutored during Thanksgiving when we go home, since apparently it prevents all sorts of cancers associated with me being a boy and will curb my desire to roam. I'll also be getting a dental since I ate all kinds of doggie junk food and have a tremendous case of tarter buildup which can cause gengivitis. Also I have a really bad overbite and as my upper canines grew in my lower canine wore them away so I have little nubs for upper canines. When I get a dental mom will have a better idea on whether or not those need to be removed since they are possibly decaying. Mom's not real sure about my upper canines though cause I don't like for her to mess with my funky teeth.

I am now in a home full of love that appreciates how much love and energy I have. They take care of me properly by getting basic care for me and ensuring that I recieve the needed medical treatment. I now get once a month heartworm prevenative. I was heartworm positive altough I showed no signs and am doing great now. It's no fun having itty bitty worms living in your heart and lungs. Plus it comes in a tasty little treat which I LOVE! The only thing I don't like is I'm being treated for mange once a week which I developed while waiting to get my leg amputated. Those shots are no fun, but at least I'm not itchy anymore...and my hair is growing back.
