Arrival Story: Havelock Police report of 143 Witten Circle 4/1/2005 Time: 12:15 AM.
My neighbor from 143B came to my apartment 143C at 12:15 a.m. on the morning of April 1, 2005 to tell me that someone was inside apartment A at 143 Witten Circle, and the Havelock Police Department was on its way. (No one should be inside the apartment due to no one renting it at this time. The concern he had was his car was broken into the night before so we were all on the watch for anything out of the norm).
At about 12:20 a.m. I got dressed and went outside to support my neighbor until the police came. I knocked on his (my neighbor’s 143B) door and he invited me in to wait until the police came. I could see the fear on his wife’s face and I said, “No, I’ll stay outside and wait for the police and you stay inside with your wife.”
A couple of minutes later I saw two large men walking to the apartment. Not knowing who they were I hit them with my Sears 1.5 million candlepower spotlight to size up the fight that might happen. Well, it turned out to be two policemen and I turned off the light within a second.
I then ran to the back of my apartment to be ready to use the spotlight if needed. Within a couple of seconds I saw a large person running at me. I hit them with the Sears 1.5 million candlepower spotlight and said “FREEZE or I’ll let my dog go.” (By the way my dog is a 10 oz. 7-week old longhaired Chihuahua named Twinkles) . Within a split second another person was with the first and by this time I could see the first person was a boy, I’ll call him “A”, and the second person was a girl, I’ll call her “B”. They both stopped running and had their hands in the air. I’m not sure if it was the Sears 1.5 million candlepower spotlight on them or the 10 oz. 7-week old longhaired Chihuahua named Twinkles.
Within seconds both policemen came flying around the corner and had them on the ground and had handcuffed them. The police radioed back to the police department saying two in custody. The dispatcher asked if any others were inside. Both “A” and “B” said “No.”
The police started checking out the storage building, which is attached to the back of the apartment and found two more people lying inside. A girl, I’ll call “C”, and a boy, I’ll call “D”. He said “Don’t move.” Then took them out one at a time and handcuff them.
I then used my Sears 1.5 million candlepower spotlight to help the police go inside the apartment. I did this due to the flashlights they had really did not give off the bright light that would make it a safe entry. Within minutes the apartment was cleared. I locked the back door and went out the front locking it behind me.
