My husband and I had been looking for a Dane puppy for the longest time. We researched them and found breeders we were interested in. One day I came across an ad on Petfinder Classifieds for a 1 year old Merle Dane in desperate need. She had been abused as a pup. She had some toes that had been broken and were left to heal funny without treatment. She had a broken rib that had been left untreated. She had a burn mark on her back from someone putting a cigar out on her. She was about to be put to sleep if someone didn't rescue her. I showed my husband the ad and that night we brought a scared timid Lily home with us. She was so underweight and recovering from an upper respiratory infection. We took her in, bathed the months of grime off of her and fed her until she was full. For the first couple of weeks she ate like it would be her last meal. It took awhile for her to warm up to our other dog Raven, but now a month later, they are best friends. Lily has since put on quite a few pounds and looking better every day. She has the sweetest disposition for a dog that has been abused since birth. She loves to cuddle up with us, give Dane hugs, and run and play with Raven and my two kids. I didn't think I could love an animal this much. But Lily has shown me that the best kind of love is puppy love.
Bio:
Lily Died May 8, 2006 during a routine spay. She will be missed and loved forever.
