Arrival Story:
I worked at a factory when I was in college with a guy who had been in jail for stabbing someone. This guy had put Michael in his van for the entire day and somehow was surprised when he went to get Michael at the end of the work day and found that he had eaten the inside of the van. I was not present, but was told by other employees that this guy had pulled back his leg and kicked Michael right in the ribs because he was mad about his van (which was a piece of junk anyways so I don't know why he was so upset). But I was told that after he kicked the dog, he stated that unless someone took him home with them, he was going to take the dog home and shoot him. So I, of course, took the dog, even though I lived in an apartment where you could not have pets.

Bio:
Michael spent his first few weeks with me learning that he did not have to duck and flinch every time someone raised their hand near him. Even loud voices would scare him to death. My little sister, who still lived at home at the time, agreed that she would take care of Michael for me until I could move to a place where I could have a dog. Which ended up being a few years and all during that time, my little sister took care of Michael, taught him that he had nothing to be scared of and filled his life with love and happiness. She even came up with a way to get him to let her cut his nails without him trying to bite her....I can still see her running around the house with a pair of nylons in her hands, laughing while Michael ran around keeping one step ahead of her with a big grin on his face thinking it a game. When she finally caught up with him she would push the nylons up over Michael's head, that way he could still see, he could easily breath, but it was just wierd enough of a sensation that he would not try to bite you when you cut his nails. Michael eventually became tolerant of getting his nails cut and we did not need the nylons any longer, though he would still growl under his breath. Michael died on December 9, 2003, from old age and diabetes, at home with his brothers. I miss him tremendously and cry even as I type this from the pain in my heart. He was a joy to be around, a long legged goofy clown who could catch a tennis ball bounced against a wall all day long. I know he loved me, as well as my sister, and that neither of us will forget his kisses...just the tip of his tongue, no slobber, and whiskers tickling your cheek. I also know that we will see Michael again some day and I very much look forward to it.
