Arrival Story: One day, near the end of the Christmas break in 2002 we decided to go into the local Humane Society to look at the dogs. We had done this a couple of times before, but no dogs were appropriate or grabbed our interest.
This one day it would be different. Not one, but two dogs interested us. After meeting them both and talking to staff, we decided to take home Sammy.
How prepared were we? We had nothing. No food bowls, no food, not even a towel to cover the seats in our car. Did I mention it was winter in Ottawa and the ground was muddy?
Anyway, when we got home, and released the hound (that never gets old to me) He went nuts! He ran all over the house sniffing out his new environment. We were thinking to ourselves, what did we get ourselves into. However, it would turn out he would be an absolutely dream dog! Except for the seperation anxiety that we would learn about later, but that is another story.

Bio: Samuel had a tough start. We understand he had several guardians prior to us, who had to give him up for varied reasons. He did have a propensity to let his wonderlust get the better of him. We would be embarrassed when Samuel would play "houndini" and escape from us the first week we had him. Embarassed, we then had to pick him up from the same shelter where we adopted him from the week before. Ironically, Samuel has seperation anxiety, but will happily run away chasing smells any opportunity he gets. That's just one of his quirky ways...we wouldn't change a hair on his head, for the amount of joy and laughter he's brought into our lives.

Wow, after a long snooze in the car, I made it to some place called Toronto. It didn't seem that great, but then I went downtown. This place was the best! The street was filled with people giving away stuff! All kinds of doggie goodies! Also, the streets were crawling with other dogs! It was paradise!
I don't know why, but people kept taking my picture. Apparently they had never seen such a tall "beagle" before. That's too bad far them.
After Woofstock, I went somewhere called Niagara. It was a good opportunity to sniff out some new smells. The best part however was during a walk in the Short Hills Provincial Park where I saw (and smelled) two deer. I took off after them, unfortunately the doofus holding on to the leash wouldn't let go. I think I could have caught them!

Wet Dog, one of my favorite smells.
Thanks to the weather, there was no shortage of wet dogs. The increased scent made up for the lack of butts on the ground.
Another good walk through the Arboretum. So many trees, so little juice...
For some reason, Darren and I were picked out to be in the look a like contest. He's nowhere near as handsome as me. He doesn't have velvet like ears, and he doesn't even have a tail! Thankfully, we didn't win that.

Yeehaw! Another great weekend for me! It all started with a walk through Bruce Pit. That in itself is a nice treat, but from there, I was taken to Andrew Hayden Park. There were a lot of signs with pictures of dogs with a line through them. Not sure what that means.
There were a whole lot of dogs there, and I got to meet many of them. For some reason my peep holding the leash wouldn't let me prove how dominant I was. I was feeling really strong yesterday.
I got to walk around the beautiful park a couple times. I was eying the geese, but they never came close enough. Finally after the walk I was dog tired, and while I was resting my peep put some hot dog in front of my face, does life get any better than that?
