Arrival Story:
It was September of 2004 and we thought we were calling the Golden Rescue in northeast Ohio (GRIN) to ask about "Jake". We were certain that Jake was going to be the guy we'd hoped for ever since running into GRIN volunteers at the Shaker Farmer's Market a few weeks after our move to Ohio from Alexandria, VA. So when we got a volunteer on the phone and the name "Alex" came tumbling out instead of Jake (still not sure what intervened to make that happen), little did we realize what a remarkable mistake we had made. Cut to today - nearly one year later - and Alex is home (and we think Jake found a great home too). When the GRIN intake coordinator took him in, he weighed a hair over 40 pounds. He’s at a stable 65 pounds now, and that seems to be just right for him. He's become a terrifically healthy lad too - no more ear infections, no more allergy or flea problems, and he has maintained his weight. He has a beautiful coat, and everyone tells us he is gorgeous on his many daily walks. From the day we met him, he was a sweet dog, but he is so much more comfortable with us now. He has happy, shining eyes, is much more trusting, and is outgoing with people and other dogs. He is also more obedient and will listen much better. He wasn’t exactly shy before, but you can tell he is more confident and healthy since he’s gained weight and is living in a stable, loving home. He’s still scared of shovels and brooms or big sticks, but is better than he used to be. And, he is a gentle - if sometimes ambivalent - younger brother to 2 cats that have grown accustomed to him. He came to us as such a poor boy - we are still very careful to be gentle with him.

What's the deal? He's walking me at noon? Petting me at 10:30? What's going on? (((((((((((((shhhhhhhhh don't tell him that I LOVE it when he's home petting me and letting me sleep on his leg)))))))))))))))). Sheesh. Must be nice.
