Arrival Story:
We found Sweetie on our property about two years ago. Actually, one of my big dogs, Pratt, found her huddling against a tree. She was a mess--hairballs as big as my fist on her feet and under her belly. She had vines wrapped around her and ants crawling on her. She was wet from being left out in the rain for at least a couple of days. We took her to our vet and he kept her overnight. We had no idea when we left her if she was going to be able to be saved or even what kind of dog she was. When we got to the vet's office the next day, they had shaved her down and gotten around 300 tick and who knows how many fleas off her. And, under all that was a cute, scared cocker spaniel. No major health issues just worms and ear nfection. Home she went with us and because she had submitted to all the fun things the vet did to her with no snapping, snarling or major protest, she got named Sweetie. It took a couple of months to clear up the health problems and probably a year to really socialize her. And, now neither of us can imagine our lives without her. We'd never had a housedog before and now we're among the converted. She travels with us by airplane, car and boat--cheerfully and happily. She makes us laugh every day and has become a part of our family. I'm just glad she wandered onto our property!
