Arrival Story:
Luckie, an older Black Labrador mix, was a resident of the animal shelter for about 6 months where I volunteer. The shelter staff were convinced that Luckie didn't like other dogs, but I thought otherwise. I decided to bring in Cinder to see how they'd do together. The introduction was easy and both dogs were rewarded with a liver treat for their good behavior. I decided to adopt Luckie on the spot and when I said, "Ok, let's go!" Luckie stood up on her hind legs and put both front paws in the air - almost like two high fives! (I have witnesses - it really did happen!) She didn't touch anyone though, and it made us all laugh. It was like she knew she was going to her forever home, which she has done.

Bio:
After speaking to Luckie's former vet, Dr. Tammy, we discovered that Luckie was almost 9 years old and was abandoned at the clinc where Tammy had worked. One weekend morning last summer (2004) Tammy was on call & when she arrived at the clinic Luckie was tied up and there was a note that said something like, "My name is Lucky and I am 8 years old. My mom & dad can't keep me anymore because they can't afford to keep paying to get me back when I run away and they can't keep me confined." Luckie stayed at the clinic until someone adopted her, but she was returned when the person developed allergies. Luckie was also used as a donor (blood) dog for surgeries at the clinic . Then she ended up at the shelter where I think she got depressed. She really didn't exhibit much of a personality, but she has really blossomed since coming to live with us. About a year before adopting Luckie I was at the clinic and there was a picture of Lucky hanging up announcing that she was available for adoption. I looked at her and felt a pang in my heart and thought, "Oh, she looks just like my Cinder!" I also thought, "I am going to get that girl." Well, a year or so later, I got that girl! We'll get some new pics ASAP!

Oh My Dog ... I Slept Through Dog of the Day!

I just found out yesterday that I was Dog of the Day on February 16, 2010 and that I SLEPT THOUGH THE ENTIRE EVENT! I think you are supposed to get cake on that day, if I am not mistaken. My brother, Sancho Panza, got a virtual cup cake from a pup pal, Bella, but I did not get any food what-so-ever. None.

I am just barkless over this. I missed my golden day! I am 13 years old, so I will never see that honor again!

I just found out something. It was my mom's fault. She was messing around on Dogster just before this and she was in my account and she changed my e-mail preferences. I am going to have to change my password.

Mom owes me some cake or some very special treats for this!

Tag...AND NOW YOUR IT!

Answer all questions, post them in your diary and have fun!

1. What color is your collar? - Collar? What Collar? I don't wear a collar ever since one of our puppies almost choked his brother. Oh, mom says I have a collar I wear outside the house and it is red. Oh, well, I can't see red, so it looks blue to me! Blue like Blue Dog Bakery Biscuits!

2. What kind of food do you eat? - I eat all kinds of food - anything I can get my choppers on! I also do a little dance when mom delivers it! The main kibble we get is Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul - good stuff!

3. What are your favorite treats? I like any treats, any time, anywhere!

4. Do you have a Valentine or significant other? - My mom is my Valentine. I like playing with the puppies & Schnooks. Mom orders special treats for us from the Three Dog Bakery on Valentine's Dog Day!

5. Do you get table scraps? Yes I do. Doesn't every dog? I would be a very sad doggie if I didn't. Besides, what do you think dog food is made out of? People food!

6. What is your favorite toy? Anything I can rip up or toss in the air. Oh, and if there is a treat in the middle...all the better!

7. When is your Birthday? -May 28, 2006. We have cake.

8. How many times a day do you get to eat? - Twice officially and then some tidbits & snackies from mom. Oh, and give Grammie puppy eyes and maybe she'll fork over something. Eating is my life! If I can get to the litterbox, there's another potential snack! ^..^

9. Do you have a favorite color? - Black, of course. Oh, and the color of food.

10. Do you hope all your pals put this in their diary? What's a diary? I would like to learn more about my friends, especially what they eat!

Love, Licks, & Lotsa treats!
