Arrival Story: Loki was a stray found by a lady who almost hit him with her car. He was about 10 lbs. too thin, wearing a raggedy, too-small collar, and unwilling to enter a house, climb stairs, or eat dog kibble. She couldn't keep him with her, so we volunteered to hold onto him until his legitimate human companion could be found. When we brought him to our house, we also found that he wasn't housebroken, and he didn't know anything about crates. We actually thought he may have belonged to a street person who abandoned him, and we decided that if his human couldn't be found, we would keep him, as he is sweet-natured, willing to please, gets along with the other dogs, and--bonus--beautiful! Until his person was found, and in case s/he wasn't, I named the young dog "Loki" because he has the naughty, fun face of a Trickster :-). Those stand-up ears and bright orange eyes make him look a bit like a coyote, which I always think of as the original Trickster!

Bio: "Loki" is not his real name. Loki is not our dog, and he doesn't live with us. We had the honor of his company--and his love--for 4 days, until his legitimate human came forward to claim him, and he went home with her. In those 4 short days, I fell in love with this gentle-natured, loving, intelligent young dog, and having him leave our home broke my heart! My loving husband offered Loki's person several hundred dollars if she would allow him to stay with us, but of course she loves him as much as I do, and she declined. I can't say I'm surprised. All we could do was leave her our contact info in case she ever changes her mind, and sob as he rode away. I hope he lives a long, happy, love-filled life. Perhaps, if I'm really, really lucky, he'll be part of our life again, someday.
