Arrival Story:
Stacy was a "rescue" dog at the kennel. She came in to board, but while she was boarding her mother became ill and passed away. Her human siblings told the kennel to put Stacy to sleep, but we opted to keep her and find her a new family. I was completely enamored with Stacy and really wanted to adopt her. However, I had to find a new place to live, get a new job, etc. in order for me to be able to take her. Yet, after some time my situation finally worked itself out and she came home with me at last! I knew when I took her that she was very old and probably wouldn't live to see her 13th birthday, but she lived two very happy months before she finally passed away.

Stacy was beautiful and wise. The time that I knew her was filled with unwanted drama and sadness for Stacy, but she came home with me when she needed a new home and lived healthily and happily. She really was a lovely greyhound. I was so happy to have her and be able to care for her during her golden years. On a separate note I enlisted NGA's help with finding out her racing name - Keep Pace With Stace! She's by Cash for Chris, out of Surfire Gail.

Thank you to all who sent their condolences when they read Stacy's journal. It meant a lot to me to know how many wonderful people are out there empathizing and sending their warm wishes at this very hard time. Stacy would be very touched I'm sure!
Thank you again, Stacy's Mom

Hi, this is Stacy's Mom and I am very sad to report that Stacy passed away today. We woke up this morning and she hopped around and was as happy as a clam, ate like a horse then took a nap. Around noon we met Beauty's Pappy at Hammonasset for a run on the beach. Thor and Beauty played and dug and ran, while Stacy snuggled and enjoyed the sea breeze, even trotting some for the simple joy of it. She came home as lovely as ever, lay down to rest on her bed, then twenty minutes later took her last breaths. It was very quick and painless, I stroked her ears and she slept. She couldn't have asked for a better way to go. She had a lovely day, the sun broke out at the beach, and left with no pain, no incontinence, no hearing or sight lost, just as gentle and beautiful, as she was. She was old, she'd had an amazing last week, and it was her time.

I gave Stacy the best home I could for her last two months. She was the sweetest greyhound and a hugely positive force in my life. She gave me an outlet for my need to care and nurture, she gave me the peace and tranquility of helping an old girl gently finish her very full life. My dogs mean the world to me, and though Stacy and I had a comparitively short time together, she too was my heart and soul. I will miss the way she gently walked up and pressed her head to my chest so I could rub her ears and neck. I will miss the adorable way her gorgeous ears pointed forward when she was looking in her food dish to examine how best to lick up the remaining contents. I will miss the way she looked up so sweet and guilty when I caught her trying to dig in the food at work. I will miss the silly and hopping way she cantered when she was feeling frisky out on the lawn. I will miss all her little quirks and mannerisms, all the little things that you notice on a day to day basis and that shape her personality. It's what made Stacy my Princess Stace. It devestates me to think I'll never cuddle with her and kiss her sweet needle nose goodnight, but I'm so happy that she died quickly, painlessly, and happily. I truly believe she was as content and as cared for as she could have been. She might have preferred to be with her longtime mother who passed away (why I got to take Stacy) but I believe that her original mother would have been happy to know Stacy had the life she did with me and died the way she did. Perhaps I'm being redundant in my attempt to memorialize Stacy and my feelings for her, I guess all I can say is I love you and rest in peace, Stacy.

Well, I really had a great Thanksgiving even though Mommy left us alone all day!!! I ate my breakfast like a horse and then slept all day long. (I'm really not up to much else these days.) But when Mommy came home in the afternoon to go to work I was so happy. I even trotted out to the car and through the aisles at work. Rummi got to come too since she was alone all day too and Grandma and Grandpa stayed in NYC for the weekend. Plus, we didn't have a regular work day - just 1.5 hours to give evening meds and do walks with all the puppies at the kennel - we were booked for Thanksgiving a month in advance! Anyways, not much else is going - still having good and bad days, even though my good days consist more and more of just sleeping, at least I'm not in pain and I can walk and see and hear and eat and eliminate. And smile.

Happy snoozes, Princess Stace
