It smells like the vet.

I've been coughing alot lately, and usually when I do this the humans look at me and mutter something about Monday. It's Monday, and they've all been walking around with this sneaky look in their eye and talking about 3:00pm.

I have a sneaking suspicion that this is going to be a vet day, and I'm not removing myself from under this computer desk without a fight. They wonder how I know, but I know.

Nobody is sticking ME with a needle!

I'm feeling a bit better. I'm eating some Moist & Meaty now which is soft dry food, so that is a start with that. I chew on rawhides and chew toys till my gums can no longer take it, but my persons say every little bit helps. I've perked up alot, and had my first play session with another dog today. Usually I'm timid and scared of playing.

The other dogs were playing so the girl, Kat, sat down on the ground and called me out from under the desk. She offered the ball that was being played with by the other two to me in an attempt to get me to join in. I timidly took it in my mouth, and boy did I get pet and praised a whole lot! So I ran around with the ball sort of confused for a minute. Then the girl gently began tugging it from my mouth, and I played my first tug of war. I got treats and praised again, I was very proud.

Then, I dropped the ball to Lil Bit... I was shocked what happened next cause he didn't seem to be all too fond of me to begin with. But suddenly he initiated play, and poof... we ran all over the house together. I played very gently with him since he is little, and we had a good ole time. Tiki however just barked from the chair at the commotion. My people got video of it, and it will be uploaded to their website soon. I will link it for all you pooches here on dogster when they get it sorted out!

Yay!

My Story So Far...

I have had an interesting month. I was picked up starving, with a messed up ear, in horrible conditions from god knows where. Wandering... My gums hurt, I had trouble eating alot of things... and I was taken off to the local animal shelter. They processed me, took my photo against a green wall with some fall decorations, and slapped me in a Kennel with a large number of other dogs.

The dogs changed face as time went on. Some left forever to a home, or to be killed. Some went in and out as they were seen by people or vets. It was all so unnerving, and I still do not fully understand what was happening to me and why we were all there. Some of the dogs were sick. It smelled like fear, excrement, and blood. I could hear some kind of screaming, and fighting on and off. Especially from the larger dog section of the kennel. One guy messed up, and hand fed only one dog some food through the bars, and it got pretty nasty. An array of people would come in and try to fondle us through the bars, the kindness was a nice distraction, but some of them weren't as gentle as they should have been.

When all the dogs got excited it could be pretty scarry.... the noise and clanging of metal bars was deafening. Still, I kept hope, and my spirits... some of my cagemates could not, but I did.

Some of my Kennel mates were absolutely terrified. Sydney, a kennel mate of mine, a tiny Jack Russel Terrier with an infected green eye, would bark continuously never stopping. A chihuahua mix, not friendly enough to give me a name, curled into a fearful ball into the corner. Then there was the annoying one, a puppy, some kind of mix, brown and black, she chewed and chewed on me out of boredom. I tried to playfully fend him off, but she was tireless.

They fed us all dry food, which I don't eat, and at the same time, I had to fight for my food which I will not do, so I starved.

One guy was handfeeding a dog through the bars infront of his Kennelmates, and a seering fight broke out, and someone was hurt. Some people came by and talked in hushed scolding tones to him, but the dog would not stop screaming for hours.

A couple people came in I sort of recognized, and I greeted them. I couldn't give them all my time, as I was busy trying to tirelessly persuede the puppy from chewing on me... but whenever he got distracted, or sometimes with him attached to my body I would make sure to come over, and get loved through the bars.

They stayed with me on and off that day, and finally had to leave. I didn't know what was to come.

Three days later a person came around with those weird leashes, and took me off in a strange vehicle to a vet. I was worried about what was going to happen. They stuck me with a needle, and when I woke up my belly was very sore. They stuck me again and after I felt better, but I could not help still being discomforted by the wound in my belly.

It was all so surreal.

Later that day they put that weird type of leash on me again, you know the one that is all one material, not a collar and a leash? But a choker collar leash? Yeah that! And then they lead me out..

Two people exclaimed when they saw me and it made me nervous. It was the people from the pound again, the ones I sort of felt I knew, It was so surreal though I was very nervous and cowered, I figured they were taking me back to that horrible place again... I was very depressed, and in pain. But I enjoyed seeing the trees and the sunset in my sleepy haze. I was stroked and petted, and exclaimed over.

To my surprise we pulled up to a house. I saw some dogs, and worried it was another one of "THOSE" places, but they put me on a bed. (After for some reason unknown to me carrying me in thru a window) I was elated! I slept and slept and slept. It was hot so they set me up with a fan... and then later transported me infront of the air conditioning on the couch. I rested very peacefully.

That night I was in alot of pain and discomfort... the girl stayed up with me all night transporting me gently on and off the bed so I could pee, be offered a bit of water, ect. I couldn't really move so I'd let her know when I wanted to be chaufferred. I nosed the food around, as I could not eat it. I wanted so badly to eat it though, I'd try and then spit it out, and drag my nose against the carpet, then try again. Finally the girl fell asleep and I nuzzled under her arm, and we slept.

---

The next morning I felt alot better, I explored the house, met Tiki & Lil Bit, and the cats. I don't really notice the cats... that much. I was fed moist food, given treats, walked everywhere, and then later that evening invited in a different room to meet an older lady who lives here too. I think they were waiting on telling her I was here or something. She really liked me though, and petted me. She insulted me alot, but I knew better, I could see she looked at me with eyes of love. She stroked me, and gave me meat, and treats, and we all watched weird colors on a strange device that made sound while chewing on rawhide treats. We had a rawhide for each of us! And we all got to be on the bed! When the dinner came in they all shared their dinner with us. It was pretty great. Then the girl, as I learned her name is Kat, and her boyfriend, Brant went to our room and slept.

---

The next day after that I felt MUCH better, I went for another morning walk, I got to explore out back, they shared their food again, I am chaufferred onto any soft surface I want to relax on, and Lil Bit, and Tiki seem to be liking me, and I them. This could be a great situation for me. I have alot to overcome in the future, but I see a very bright light of hope at the nearing of an end of a very dark tunnel... finally.
