Favorite Walk: Abuelita doesn't walk very well, she likes to ride around in her bag and she loves to toddle around in the park looking for treats in the grass.

Best Tricks: Convincing people that she's a puppy

Arrival Story: One day, at the vet's office where I work, a real jerk brought in a tiny little dog to euthanize. He said she was ten years old, she hadn't been to a vet for 6 years. Her name was Lady, but that's not how they treated her.
Six months before his visit, she had started to have trouble walking. Instead of taking her to a vet, they just kept her in the bathtub! By the time she came to us, she couldn't walk at all. Her hair was like brillo, thinning and smelly. Her teeth were horrible. She had a honking cough because of collapsed trachea. One of her front legs had been broken or dislocated and had been left to heal that way.
But despite all that, this little lady was still a lover. So we had him sign all the euthanasia paperwork and we took Lady to the back. Later that day, we called him up and said, "Do you mind if we keep her and try to help her walk again?" and he said, "We don't care what you do with her."
I fell in love with her immediately and after a week, I knew I had to take her. She's such a good, happy little dog. She's as irresistible as a sunny day and wants only to love and be loved. She's so cute and sweet that she stops traffic routinely. I take her everywhere with me.
Her teeth have been cleaned, she's been getting hydrotherapy, massage, supplements and a much improved diet since May 2005 and she is now able to scamper around on soft surfaces, like grass and rugs.
When I think of her giving a lifetime of love and then just being thrown away, it breaks my heart. Older dogs need love too.
