Pet-Peeves: When he finds Henry eating the biscuit that he's just previously hidden.
Favorite Toy: Usually the one that his brother Henry's playing with
Favorite Food: Dog mixer with a roast dinner and gravy. Cheese. (He hears me cutting it and he comes arunning)
Favorite Walk: He loves ALL walks.....but especially when he gets to swim at the beach, or the lake in the park.

Arrival Story: I was at an awful stage in life as I knew my beloved Shephard (Tess)was nearing the end of her life. I thought if I brought another dog home, loving that dog might help with our grief when Tess died. It did help btw. Anyway, I had been wanting to get a Basset Hound as they sounded so much fun and full of character. But after being advised against getting a Basset, I got a Jack Russel instead, Rocky, as I'd had one as a child and and knew they made great family pets. I found a breeder, and so we have Rocky. And he is a great, family pet.
Bio: Rocky has a Basset Hound as his 'little' brother. I never got over my wanting a Basset Hound, so went out and got Henry a year after getting Rocky.
Tess (13yrs)was still with us at this point, and Rocky aged only about 1 yr old, herded the newcomer Henry Basset (aged 8wks) away from bothering Tess. Tess had mothered Rocky since we brought him home from a 6 wk old pup and cared for him, so when Henry arrived in our home , Rocky returned the compliment, by caring for Tess and keeping Henry away from bothering her. One memorable instance, 2 days after bringing Henry home, the sweet, little, tinker wanted to go and meet Tess. Rocky being the fab littele dog he is, didn't want her bothered by the little Basset Hound. He herded Henry (Basset) away from Tess (Shepherd), so she could lie and relax on the grass without being bothered by a new puppy. Also we were warned that with Henry having such a long back he's not to take any large steps, down. So, as Rocky herded Henry away from Tess, Henry was about to fall down the step off the garden. Rocky, god bless his little soul, ran in front of Henry and stopped him falling off the step, and herded him into a different part of the garden - away from where Tess was laying, and away from any dangerous steps. Truly amazing to watch!! And people who don't know them, think JRT are stupid dogs. I think not ! Tess passed over to the bridge a few days after this incident, and Rocky went on to totally "father'" Henry. He still looks out for him to this day, and comes to his rescue every time.
Another little story about Rocky guarding Henry... - Rocky isn't too good with other dogs (thats another story) so is generally kept on his lead when out walking in public places. This one day, Henry was running about happily on the other side of the field to Rocky and me, and an awful dog came up barking aggressively at Henry Basset. Rocky saw this going on, and heard Henry howling in fear (my hound is a bit of a softy) so I let Rocky of his lead, (I knew he wanted to get over and help Henry) and he bounded across the field at great speed and barked-his-head-off at this awful, aggressive dog. Honestly, you should have seen the brothers...Henry was bouncing around as if to say "oh thank you Rocky, you saved me!!" And Rocky strutted his stuff, as if to say "No bother Henry, any time bro. I'm just soo good". Amazing brotherly love.
I work with an animal rescue and have recently adopted 2 cats, and again, Rocky is an excellent little boy. He so treats them with respect.
As a family pet, I couldn't fault him. He's such a happy, obedient, willing, loving, caring dog. I just wish he wouldn't bark so much at the postman, the window cleaner, the bin men, people walking past the window, or past the back garden, or everytime someone knocks at the door, ........
