Barkie, Dreamboat, Barkerino, Bark

Doggie Dynamics:
not playfulvery playful

Quick Bio:

November 19th 2001

Playing with "Nanny Kathy" (his 3rd parent), going for walks, sleeping on people's laps, eating Greenies, snuggling

When Piper takes his bone, when Nanny or Mommy and Daddy have to go away, when Piper chews on his ear and when Nala, the cat next door, comes on the porch and sits in the rocking chair

Favorite Toy:
His blue bear

Favorite Food:
Used to be sugar-free vanilla ice cream but can't have that any more, so -- chicken, carrots, cookies

Favorite Walk:
Down past the brook to the yellow tree, or around the block in our old neighborhood

Best Tricks:
I like when he serves as Nurse Dog for whoever is ill, guards and protects them

Arrival Story:
Fell in love at a pet store called Shake-A-Paw; he was so excited to be playing with us, he jumped as high as Tigger. We were actually looking for a dog for my mother-in-law, and I had never had a pet, but Barker was mine from Minute One.

Barker got me through some tough times, and nurtured and comforted both my mother-in-law and my mother (summers of 2003 and 2004 respectively) before they passed on. He is fiercely loyal to the people he loves and would rather be with them, snuggling, than anything. He's a bed hog and he won't wear his raincoat but he's okay with sweaters and even dogjammies! Adjusting to the arrival of his "little sister" Piper in v2005 was rocky for a while but now they sometimes sleep next to each other on the couch, faces touching, and walk together side by side. Barker understands 95% of everything I say and loves the music I write. He sits on my feet as I play piano and sing. They are mostly really good pals now -- and she wants to do whatever Barker does -- if he goes out on the porch to bark at people, she follows and does it the same way for the same amount of time; they now have a huge wardrobe including sweaters, quilted coats with hoods, light pjs and polar fleece ones, harness vests and T-shirts. Piper eats anything smaller than a watermelon. She weighs 12 lbs. (was not supposed to be bigger than 6-7 lbs.) and Barker is 15 lbs.

A quick birthday entry from the Barkie Boy

I don't know what the big deal is -- no party, no cake -- I guess 11 must not be a big birthday. But Mommy hugged me a LOT and sang to me -- and I had a Greenie for dessert and I got to stay for part of the choir rehearsal. Right now I'm watching "Dancing with the Stars" with my Nanny and soon I will be snuggling Mommy at bedtime. Daddy smooched me too. I guess it's not SUCH a bad day -- but where is my boneshaped cake?!!!

My mommy wrote a poem -- wanna hear it?

This is my Mommy's poem for when she has to go away overnight or for a few days. (I HATE that. Once I peed in her suitcase.) It's about how she always tells me that she will be back, and she always comes back even though it seems like forever in between. Maybe you will like this poem too, if you don't like when your Moms & Dad go away. This is how it goes:

Thank You for guarding these Precious Ones entrusted to my care;
I know they would prefer to know I'll always be right there,
But sometimes I must go away. So let them watch me pack,
Secure in understanding that I ALWAYS will come back.

Piper and I do NOT like SUITCASES!!

The first time I saw a suitcase (my Mom and Dad were going on a trip), I jumped up on the bed where it was lying, and I PEED in it! So you can see that we know what they are about and we do not like them. Not.

Sometimes Mommy and Daddy go on trips, and sometimes Mommy goes with our Nanny Kathy who lives in our house. Either way it stinks. So Mommy wrote a poem about it -- it's a prayer so we can feel better. We would feel better if they never went away. (BUT -- we have NEVER been put in a kennel -- we always stay in the house with the parent who stayed home, so I guess we shouldn't complain too much -- it could be lots worse!) Anyway, here's my Mommy's poem:

Thank You for guarding these Precious Ones entrusted to my care;
I know they would prefer to know I'll always be right there,
But sometimes I must go away. So let them watch me pack,
Secure in understanding that I ALWAYS will come back.

Nite nite Nanny, wherever you are (at the Beach). We love you.
Barker & Piper
