Arrival Story:
When I was 14 our family's first dog, Zip, died at the young age of 6. I was broken-hearted because I loved Zip very much! My mom said we were not going to get another puppy for a while. But we just couldn't take the empty house! We went to the animal shelter just to look. We saw a black puppy who looked like our old dog, and we saw a beagle puppy. We decided we wanted to get the beagle puppy because we wanted a dog that would look totally different from Zip, so it wouldn't feel like we were replacing her. We asked them to hold the beagle puppy for us. However, the next week we went back, and the beagle puppy had been mistakenly given to another family! The black puppy was still there though. We decided to at least meet her and play with her and see what we thought. Our previous dog had also been a shelter dog, and she had been abused by the owners who had her first, so when we'd gotten her she was very skittish and afraid of people. With that in mind, my mom suggested that we all sit down on the floor when the staff brought the black puppy out, so that the black puppy would not be as intimidated. When the staff member brought the little puppy, out and set her down, though, she ran right over to me and threw herself in my lap! Then she just sat there and looked around with a satisfied expression on her face! Needless to say, we fell head-over-heels in love with her! We brought her homeand she has been lighting up our lives for twelve years now!

Bio:
When Chopper is happy, she smiles with her teeth, like the dog in the Sierra Mist commercials. ("Good dawg!") Before she joined my family, Chopper was a stray dog. She was found running down the street by herself when she was three months old. However she's never been afraid of people! When we first got her, we would take her for walks, and if she saw a stranger walking on the sidewalk, she would slip out of her collar and go barreling towards them with that big toothy grin on her face! People would freak out because they thought she was snarling at them and attacking them! But once she got to them, she'd throw herself down in front of them on her back and ask for a belly rub! Added 1/18/08- After blessing me and my family with a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful thirteen years of love, Chopper got lymphoma last October. It proressed very, very quickly, and within three weeks of finding out she had lymphoma, we had to put Chopper to sleep. I think about her every day, and I will miss her for the rest of my life... but I look forward to seeing her at the Rainbow Bridge someday.
