Arrival Story: My husband and I really wanted a dog especially an American Pit Bull terrier, and my birthday was coming up so my husband decided he's get a dog for my birthday. We had been looking online at shelters and in the newspaper. One Sunday we saw an ad for Pitbull/Boxer mix puppies for sale, we called the number and spoke with a guy named J.D. and he was very friendly and knew allot about Pitbulls. We met up with him just to "look" He had a rescued full American Pitbull Terrier Zeus (Weiland's daddy) and his brother who lived with him had a full Boxer named Splash (Weiland's mommy) and they accidentally got together, and Splash had her first litter of 12 puppies. They were all mostly white or fawn with markings and spots, but there were 2 reversed brown brindle puppies that my husband and I fell in love with, it was really hard for us to decide since one was a boy and one was a girl. But in the end Weiland was a perfect match for us! And we were so thankful that we got a puppy from J.D. He made us feel very comfortable and he told us straight out he would stay in contact with us because he does not tolerate anyone fighting pits. That made us feel wonderful that there are people out there who do care about these great dogs! We had to wait 2 weeks to bring Weiland home still, she was still nursing and wasn't old enough to come to her new home! 2 very long weeks went by, and we took Weiland home, (We named her Weiland on the way home, we had already picked out the name regardless if we got a boy or girl, and we decided Weiland because we wanted a rock star name so we chose Weiland after Scott Weiland from Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, we also chose it because my husband and I's "song" is "Sour Girl" by Stone Temple Pilots) We brought her home and all of family came to see her and spoiled her with toys...2 years later and not much has changed except now she has a baby brother named Navarro!
Bio: Weiland is one of 12 puppies that were born on August 31, 2003. She has 1 twin birth brother. Her mommy is Splash (a Boxer) and her daddy is Zeus (a Pitbull who is now no longer with us) She has an another "brother" an American Pitbull named Navarro who we acquired in October of 2004. Weiland has bad summertime allergies and a very sensitive stomach, so visits to the vet are no stranger to her! On March 22, 2007 Weiland had lost to fight to glaucoma after 3 months of fighting. She went blind forever. On March 26th, 2007 she had double bilateral eye removal to relieve her from the pain from the fluid causing pressure on her eyes. She had artifical eyes implanted, currently she is still healing. She is our baby girl, and we love her more than she will ever know. Update: December 2007 - Weiland is doing great! She does sleep and lay around a bit more but now she goes out everyday and plays tug of war with Daddy! She even chases Navarro around! She has most of her puppy playfulness back and we are so happy that she is doing so much better!
My mommy said I got lots of nice messages from people and lots of bones left on my page! That's so amazing! I cannot begin to thank everyone for their kind words! My eyes are still sore and I cannot wait to get this stupid cone off my head next Monday! Mommy lifted all 75 pounds of me up so I could lay on the bed with her this morning that was so wicked! My eyes are healing up, my mommy and daddy said I have one green eye and one red eye, apparently this is normal with healing but I think it's cool to have multicolored eyes. They also now call me "flower" because when I sit with my head in my huge cone I guess looks like a flower! Well I may be blind but I still smell food when my parents make it! I beg even more now, I mean come on, I do look pretty pitiful! :)
Today I got mixed news in regards to my eye sight. It isn't going to be coming back, and I'm going to have to have surgery to remove my eyes. The good news is that will take away the pressure in my eyes that caused me to loose my sight and the nasty migranes that come with it. Then I can get back to playing with my family. I'm trying to be brave for my mommy and daddy, because they have been crying off and on all afternoon. It's still scary though. I know where most things in the house are, so that isn't to big of a deal. I'm just scared about going into surgery. Please keep me in your prayers, and don't laugh at me while I have a cone on my head while I heal up from surgery.
