Arrival Story: My friend Carol had just passed away after a long bout of MS. She was pretty much alone, so another friend and I had assumed responsibility for her care. After she passed away, Cosita and I both went through a time of depression. She used to spend about 12 hours a week with her. I started thinking of getting another dog, a big dog. The standard poodle just kept coming to mind, but they were much too expensive, as I'd just spent my money on funeral arrangements. I had looked at lots of puppies, and was actually on a waiting list for a litter. I was worried though. What if they didn't get along? What if she wasn't the right temperament for animal assisted therapy, which I really wanted to do? Where was I going to find the money? Carol had been receiving animal assisted therapy for the past 5 years, and one day I looked at her picture and just said, "Carol, you know what makes a good therapy dog, find one for me, will ya?" The next morning there was a year old standard poodle in the classifieds for 1/3 of the price of a puppy. We went to see her and I fell in love. The family was moving to California and couldn't take her with them. She was well mannered, great with kids, calm yet energetic, potty trained, and sooooo affectionate. She was perfect. They also gave me her crate, so I could afford her. I can't help but think that Carol had a hand in that. We were meant for each other!

Bio: Liberty is a certified Animal Assisted Therapy Pet Partner. She's frequently found tearing around the house after my bichon frise Cosita or curled up in a ball on my lap. Just one kiss will completely slime you! She doesn't realize she's so big. Just thinking about her makes me grin. She also has Addison's disease and takes daily meds and gets a weekly shot. I'm grateful for every day I have with her.
