Arrival Story:
We had always wanted a Bernese Mountain Dog, but figured that they were too expensive, too hard to find, and that there were plenty of available dogs elsewhere. After just missing out on an available dog with the Seattle Purebred group, our close friends (human friends & dog friends) announced that they were getting a male Bernese Mountain Dog. This came as quite a surprise as when we had last talked, they were getting a male Yellow Lab to be a companion to their female Golden Retriever. They had found an available Berner pup and decided not to get the Yellow Lab pup. I wondered, out loud, if the breeder might have any more Berner pups available. We called right then and there -- it was very serendipitous... the breeder said that they had one male puppy left. We wanted a female. Oh well. Not so fast... Apparently the breeder had had our friends down for a FEMALE pup so it was good that we had called! There was a slight mix up -- and now there was a female pup available! We put our names in, downloaded the application and sent it in immediately! 8 weeks later, the 4 of us (+ our adult dogs) drove up to pick up our beautiful Berner pups! Max & Hazelnut slept in a laundry basket on the way home. Today, Hazelnut is a big, 80 pound, bundle of Berner love! She is a talker, a bit bossy, loving and funny. When Max & Hazelnut have playdates, they play just as they did when they were puppies! Coletrane & Hazelnut are very different dogs, but love each other very much.
