Arrival Story:
My Mommy and Daddy were at a fair in Long Beach, New York on the boardwalk and came across a local humane society booth. Daddy thought it would be great to have a doggy to love so Mommy and Daddy went to the North Shore Animal League to find me. I was the very first doggy they saw. I could tell Daddy was immediately in love with me but I think Mommy wanted a smaller dog. I was thrilled when they took me out to play but they put me back in my cage and looked at other puppies. I was extremely sad when they left without me. I couldn't figure out what happened because I was brought to the North Shore Animal League specifically for them. You see, Mommy was sad because her sister Kathy had recently passed of a brain tumor at a very young age. Kathy really wanted Mommy to settle down and to marry Daddy but was concerned that this might not happen. The last coherent thing she told Mommy before she died was that she just knew that this was the right relationship and that Mommy should not let an opportunity like this go. Kathy died the same week I was born, you see. My name at the time was "Chance". When Mommy put two and two together three days later, she rushed back to the North Shore Animal League hoping to find me. This was a sign! She wanted to surprise Daddy. There I was waiting! Soon after I was brought home, they discovered that I had a similar illness as Kathy. Through my sickness and seizures Mommy and Daddy realized how much they loved me and how much they cared about each other too. They got married in January and now our family is official. They are very grateful for every day they have with me and to the North Shore Animal League (and Kathy) for bringing me to them. So why is my name Cal Ripken Jr. and not Chance? Well, Mommy says that I'm very special. As sick as I am, I am always ready to get in the game, and that I am a role model for other doggies because I always respect them and their owners. So there was no other more appropriate name to give me! That and the fact that I am irresistibly handsome. I am actually one of three doggies named after the incomparable Cal Ripken Jr. in my town alone. But I look the most like him!

Bio:
Cal (Chance) was a rescue puppy from Tennessee. Apparently too much for an expectant couple. We thank them for such a special gift!
