Dear Diary...

And they wonder why I hate the vet....

I can always tell when I am going to the vet becuase it starts out with that familiar 'guilty' look on mommy's face. She smiles at me, tells me how much she loves me and what a good boy I am, but her voice is always just a little bit 'higher pitched', just a little extra sweet. And then I'm told that I'm going for a car ride (which I hate anyway) and that there will be a big doggie biscuit waiting for me when I get home. Daddy always takes me becuase mommy can't stand to know what ailment I'll be diagnosed with this time. To worsen my anxiety today, (while I nervously waited and wondered if I can somehow chew myself off the leash) mommy and daddy discussed whose car he will take me in because I've been shedding a lot lately (I can't help it! It's almost springtime!).

The reason why they took me to the vet was that I have been licking my 'behind' a lot lately. I guess they didn't know that it was bothering me for a few weeks now. They just thought I was developing a bad habit, or that I was being extra 'clean' and 'anal' (pun intended) about my rear end. Little did they know about this peculiar procedure that the vet does called the 'anal expression'. Daddy says that $36 the vet charged is actually quite a steal because they couldn't pay him enough money in the world to do it himself (not really a home-remedy type ailment anyway). I decided to just lay still and get it over with because I hadn't had a snack all day and that biscuit was waiting for me at home. But was it embarrassing! I closed my eyes and pretended to be asleep because I couldn't bear the humiliation.

The procedure itself wasn't so bad though, and things turned out OK. Plus, for some reason, mom and dad are giving me 3 pieces of cheese with my meals now, which is always a treat. I thought I saw him hide something in the cheese as they were preparing my meal for me (called 'antibiotics' or something or other), but I get so excited when they offer me the cheese, I forget to check and swallow it whole. I'll have to remember to check out what's in the cheese next time.

Though I hate the vet... I must say, I'm just so glad mommy and daddy are there to take care of me when I'm sick. They must love me very much!

All grown up??

Today is my birthday!! Or so my owners have determined because they don't really know the exact time, place or date.. but December 7th is a wonderful date!! Today, I went for a walk and enjoyed the cool, crisp, December air and took a few naps. But the best part is the sirloin cheese-burger I will be savoring tonight, made with love by Mommy. I have been looking forward to it all day, but she has promised me that it will be worth the wait.

What a happy day!!
