Arrival Story: Those original owners in Louisiana did not know how to care for him and simply kept him chained or in a wire kennel from puppyhood to 2 years of age. What the heck is it with people? From boredom he chewed on the metal and wore down his lower front teeth to nubs. The original owners gave him the tough-sounding name of "Conan". Can you imagine a big red marshmallow with that name? Our friends lived near there at the time and rescued/adopted him from the original owners. When they moved north, "Wolf" came along with them.
He has lived with them for some years as a very sweet natured guy. They had him as an outdoor dog on acres of forest, and he was quilled by porcupines twice. That decided them that they should re-home him in a place he was less likely to find porcupines. They did not intend to have him for so long, but they could not find people who knew Sibes and would care for him. Or put up with him, depending on your
viewpoint. [grin] When he was recently vetted he tested positive for early lyme, which is being successfully treated. He is now about 5 or 6 years old.
He came to us last Friday (it is the following Wednesday now) and we have to say, adult dogs are the best! My wife says she is totally sold on mature, adult, calm dogs. He has been a big gentle giant with our current pack of 3 dogs.

Bio: Wolf (or Fenrir) is a gentle giant who steps carefully around small children and loves belly rubs from adults. He does have a weakness for live poultry; the previous owners were trying to raise ducks and chickens and that is one reason they re-homed him with us. He is quilling and able to attack porcupines. he loves to sing woo-woo at any time of the day or night.

I just found this reeealy big dog bed, and the Alphas were in it. They are a *lot* taller than me, so I was very nervous about jumping up. The previous Alphas did not let me in their den. Mess with the lead dogs and they might turn you out of the pack, y'know?
They kept calling so I crawled up. Dog, it was nerve-wracking! Then they reached out and instead of pushing me out, they rubbed my tummy. I could get used to this. Now I go up whenever I like. It is not tall at all - just 18 inches or so - so it is easy to walk onto. It's much warmer than the floor and with my heavy coat sometimes the floor feels better. But hey, I'm getting into this snuggling thing 'cus I never had it in my life before! Now I really fit my title -

My first owners in Louisiana kept me chained or penned all the time. I was so bored, I wore down my front teeth just chewing on the chain. People must think dogs are like plants or birdhouses - you buy them then leave them outside.
My second owners were a very kind, loving couple that rescued me from the first owners. They moved north and took me with them; they could not imagine giving away a dog just becase they moved. We lived in a forested area way down a dirt road which was sparsely populated by people of alternative lifestyles (new and old hippies). There I could run free or come into the house as I liked.
I tangled with pocupines twice in one year, the second time I had to be anesthetized and have quills drawn from the inside of my throat. Once a dog tangles with pocupines it seems they either leave them alone or always seek them out. The young couple decided they should find a more civilized home for me because they could not watch me all the time, and they honestly could not afford the repeat vet bills. That is reasonable.
It took some time. In the spring some people came to a Special Olympics event with a little Siberian Husky pup. She was full of energy but snuggled down and dozed in the athletes laps. My owners were impressed the people took attentive care of the pup and asked would they like to adopt another Siberian?
It took some months for me to meet their other dogs, decide I would fit in, and get my final vetting. It was a good thing the new people insisted on vetting and current shots. The vet found I had early lyme disease and it was treated with antibiotics. At the end of the summer, my owners finally took me to try and live at the new people's house with all their dogs.
It's wonderful! My third owners are just as attentive as my previous people. They let me run all over their fenced yard, and that pesky siberian pup likes to tussle and chase. I am teaching her how to woo-woo, and she is teaching me how to dig up the backyard. the two older male dogs are gentle and quiet. soemtime we lay together and just survey the yard.
