Arrival Story: I've been a big time dog lover ever since I can remember. After years of my father bringing home multiple dogs that all had major behavioral problems and he was unwilling to work with. And years of me begging for a dog that we can keep, cherish & love as part of our family, my father finally gave me the go ahead to get a dog at the age of 14. My dog!
I had the name Nanook picked out before I had the dog picked out. I knew that would be my dogs name. After a few weeks, multiple visits to multiple shelters there he was in the very last kennel, a hansome 8 month old shep mix. As soon as our eyes met I knew he was the one. The shelter found him as a stray a few months prior, tied to a telephone pole on the side of a dirt road with no houses for miles. He smelled something awful... skunk.
He was the shelter folks favorite dog but unfortunatly his time had run up... long ago. They kept him as long as they could, longer than most dogs but they were really running out of room. He was scheduled to be euthanized the next day.
My father loved him but was worried about his smell & shedding. I promised to get the smell out of him & even grabbed a brush from the shelter & started to brush him right then & there. Thats all it took. My father filled out the application & paid the adoption fee.
That night was the longest night of my life. Worrying all night that the paper work would get messed up or lost or something & he would not be there in the morning. We got there before they were open to be sure & by golly he was there! He was mine! He was now part of my family and I couldn't be happier.
