Likes: Her mommy, splashing around in her wading pool, barking at kitty cats, chasing bunnies, going for long rides with her head out the window, chewing on squeaky toys
Pet-Peeves: Baseball caps, strangers, cowboy hats (good girl!), being ignored, people who yell at Mommy
Favorite Toy: Blue Ball, Grey Mousey, Larry the Duck, Madison, mommy's shoes
Favorite Food: Dingos, Beggin' Littles, cat food, anything she can steal off the table
Favorite Walk: To Abby's house and back
Best Tricks: Sit, stay, shake, high five, jump, kiss. She also knows everyone's names and the words bunny, squirrel, dog, Go see Abbey, Who's here?, among other things. Seriously, this dog has language skills that could rival those of any normal functioning toddler!
Arrival Story: I had been wanting a puppy for several years, and after careful research, decided that the papillon was the breed for me. Unfortunately, there aren't too many papillon breeders in Ohio. So, I was looking on puppyfind.com for a couple months without much luck (Papillons are expensive and I'm not rich!). Finally, I looked in the classified ads in the Toledo Blade, knowing I probably wouldn't find anything in there as usual, but lo and behold, out jumped an ad for pappy puppies! I made the call, made the visit, begged and pleaded with the parents/landlords, and $700 later she was mine!
Bio: Full name: Kirby Diana. Best friends: Abbey, C.J., Chloe, and Bandit. Favorite NFL team: New England Patriots. Instruments played: Violin, oboe, marimba. Voted: Most likely to appear on "Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous." Born in Toledo, OH, now residing in Reston, VA. Her full registered name is: Raggedy Ann of Bowling Green Gables. (Yeah, can you figure out where I got "Kirby" from that?) :) This dog is more cat than dog, though. She jumps up on furniture, sits in the window sill and suns herself, eats cat food and cat treats, loves catnip, plays with cat toys, and meows. OK, I made that last one up, but she really is very cat-like.
Wow, I can't believe I'm a whole year older! I'm 4 now! Actually, that's a pretty good age to be for a dog because I have 4 toes. That way, when people ask how old I am, I can just hold up my paw and say, "This many!" BOL! Mommy and I are celebrating my birthday today by first going to a pappy meetup and going straight from there to a Christmas party for humans. I'll probably be gone most of the day, so I'm excited to be spending it with Mommy without the kitties eating into our cuddle time!
I went to (yet) another doggie doctor last week so he could check my eye. He says I'm all better and as good as new now! Phew! As much as it sucked having my cornea snagged, I gotta admit it could've been a lot worse. I heard one of our neighbors telling Mommy some stories about some dogs who weren't so lucky. I'm so glad my little eyeball is all back to normal-ness! Now, I can look forward to my upcoming holiday weekend in Ohio with my grandpawrents and former furblings! (Sit tight, Ohio! Kirby's comin'!) :D
I spent 2 hours last night in the emergency vet clinic with Mommy. I was just mosey-ing along, minding my own furry business, when a big blurry streak of grey fur lunged out at me from under the couch and snagged my left eye. It was Kia, being her usual defensive self. Mommy heard me yelp and then bark a few times before I ran and hid under the bed. (That's how she knew I was hurt, because I usually scream at her for several minutes after she swats at me, rather than running and hiding.) My eye was all bloody and red. Kia's snagged my eye before, but it was always in the area just outside of it. This time, she actually got my eye on the cornea. Mommy called the number to the nearest 24-hour emergency vet clinic and they told her to bring me in right away. It was probably the longest 15-minute ride of my life! Once there, they took me away from Mommy so they could check me and do tests on my eye. Mommy wanted to come back with me, but they told her no. They first gave me a shot for pain, then they waited for about 30 mins for it to kick in so they could stain my eye and do a pressure test. They found I had a large corneal ulcer on the outer corner of my left eye. (It took them 2 hours to figure that out when Mommy could tell that just from looking at me?)
The good news is it's just a superficial ulcer, so it should heal in 3-5 days. But, I have to wear a stupid Elizabethan coller and get 2 different drops in the meantime.
It's really been a bad week for the animals in my family. Besides my eye, Kisses got attacked last Monday and had to get 6 staples in her side to close the wound. Plus, I got swatted by Lily yesterday afternoon, right after Kia swatted Piston. Aria's the only one who didn't swat at anyone...and we all know why! :) I think Mommy should do something about Kia's claws now, too. I can't keep getting my eyes snagged! I only got 2, you know!
