Likes: Chance is a big social butterfly,so he loves meeting new dogs.He's very particular when it comes to humans,however.He either smothers them with kisses or sniffs them and walks away.
Pet-Peeves: He absolutely despises baths,and you can see his dissapointment when he's ignored.
Favorite Toy: Hs current obsession is with tennis balls.
Favorite Food: We started him on a raw food diet July '07,and he really seems to like it all,but his favorite so far appears to be pork brisket.
Favorite Walk: He's ethiusiatic about going anywhere.His favorite place to walk is in the forest,where he gets to play in the creek like a real lab.
Best Tricks: I've taught him all the base commands,but I have yet to teach him advanced tricks.He knows kiss,paw,jump,and up.
Arrival Story: After looking at the adorable pups at the shelter online,I found a 5-month old chestnut Staffordshire terrier.He was fit for our family,so we made an outing to the shelter in the evening.I went to the adoption center and talked to a staff member,excited and happy to be able to have a dog finally,only to hear that the dog was just adopted.I nearly cried,but we looked around anyway.First,we went to the puppies,which there were few of.Every corner you turned,there would be a dog who was just too big.We left,me feeling defeated.I went around to the adult's area,feeling like there was no dogs for us.All the dogs there were barking like crazy (rightly so for a confined dog.) Urine was on the ground,and all the dogs had to lay on was concrete and a bed.In the middle of all the small cages,there is a play area surrounded by plexi glass.It's full of toys and furniture,and dogs rotate between it.In it were three dogs only,a basenji/labrador retriever (don't ask me how that happened),and a Australian shepherd.Both seemed frustrated,constantly barking and occasionally taking out their woes on one another.In the corner,there was a tiny black dog,no bigger than 65 pounds at the time.He had deep brown eyes,and a baby-ish look.He was so calm,we thought he was sick.He was a year old about then,and listed as a Lab mix.We went on,to my dismay.I ended up getting my way and meeting Chance,then called Lil'Joe.He lay down besides me and invited a good tummy rub,and I tried to keep quiet.We put him on hold and decided to adopt him.
Without his eyes and calm demeanor,he wouldn't be laying besides me right at this moment as I type.

Gentle Giant: Even though he's a little bit on the larger side,Chance can cooperate with all dogs,including one of his best friends,Radie the Chihuahua.He weighs roughly 70lbs more than her,is about 10 inches longer and 20 inches taller,but he's very gentle with her.
I don't know whether or not we,as canids,will ever be able to grasp the perplexing phenomenon of humanity.I watch in complete stillness,marveling at their contradictory mannerisms and complicated form of communication.They exchange words mindlessly without a cogitation of their own body language.They seem to be obsessed with the action of grooming,at times doing so for hours at a time.They greet eachother in the rudest of ways.They want to make us humans,too.
My main human & I were up at the park today.I was searching for some stimulation and I came across a captivating aroma.To my delight,there was a deceased squirrel that was saturating in the ground.I dropped myself on the ground,covering myself in the pleasant scent,only to be called off it the middle of it.I continued my rolling until I was satisfied.I then returned to the human and was sent off sniffing once more.We then returned home,and the human turned on the hose.Expecting a horrible bath,I started to walk away,only to find I was tied to something ahead of time.She brought me over and rubbed me with repulsive goo and ruined my fur.She proceeded to spray me with water,and then drug me over and put me on a table dry me off with a machine and a cloth.I was then allowed to recuperate from the horrible experience by eating and sleeping on my bed.
