Birthday: January 8th 2004 Likes: To be loved on, go out for walks and chase squirrels Pet-Peeves: One of her smaller siblings walking on her paws or tail Favorite Toy: Mommie's pillows and stuffed toys, especially with beef scent Favorite Food: Anything; Maddie is not a picky eater Favorite Walk: Around the lake with her siblings Arrival Story: Maddie was rescued by police officers who caught her previous owner in the act of stabbing her. She has been badly abused and couldn't use her left back leg, as she had an old fracture and her muscles were atrophied. Still she was trying to run away from him. She was taken to a shelter and was spayed there, even though she hadn't emptied her bowels in a while. She was rescued and taken to a pet hospital where she had FMO surgery and treatment for Sarcophic Mange. Regardless, Maddie was sweet and kind to everyone willing to give her a bit of love.
We went to visit her daily at the pet hospital and volunteered to foster her. Of course, we fell in love with her and we bonded almost immediately. We have been doing physiotherapy and hydrotherapy for a year (which she hated!) to help her recover the use of her leg. Maddie has been doing a lot of progress; she is actually doing so well that she now is able to stand on her back legs and look over the fence! Bio: Maddie is now part of the family as we adopted her. On top of everything she had been dealing with, she was also heartworm positive and she had Sarcophic Mange. She had to go through heartworm treatment twice as the first one was not done correctly. We switched to a new vet and he got it right.
She is now living a disease free life, and runs like a pro on her 4 legs and is our joy! She is the sweetest and most faithful and reliable giant. She is a very affectionate girl and loves her siblings. Whenever she feels something is not right, she protects her siblings, furry and human bravely.
Her favorite activities are to chase squirrels and go out for her daily walks with us. She also enjoys car rides. I went to play care for a few days and I love to go play with my big furry pals there. I was there for 4 days in a row and mom sends me when she needs to socialize a foster. She says it helps them when I go; it makes them feel more secure. Hey! I'm willing! Everything went well and I was happy to be back home everyday. I was there yesterday also and when I came back, everything was normal.
This morning, I got out of my bed to go outside and again, everything was fine. I got back in house, got on my recliner and started to cry. I was whining and mom came to check me out. I was holding my left hind leg in a way to protect it and I was trying to lick it. Mom got worried and touched it. No problem, I let her. I jumped when she trying to move my hip.
She is worried that I have twisted something in my leg or that I am starting to have osteoarthritis in my hip. I had surgery when I was 1 1/2 years old because my previous owner had broken my hip and leg with a baseball bat. Mom is worried that even though I had the surgery 6 years ago, it is causing me problems now.
Please pray that my leg will get better. I will not walk on it at all right now as it is too painful. Mom gave me a dose of painkiller today to take the edge off and she will take me to the vet tomorrow to have my leg and hip x-rayed.
In June 2005, we received a call from the shelter letting us know they had gotten a dog from a police officer who took her away from her owner. She had to go through heartworm treatment twice as the first one was not successful. We switched to a new vet and the treatment was effective the second time. Maddie, you are my wonder dog. After all you went through, you deserved a good life based on love and trust. Whenever I don't feel good, you are always the first to come to me and rest your head on my lap. Your eyes tell me how much you love me and you are faithful to me. I love you silly my big Schnoodle girl.
I am so happy today! My buddy Babybear, that very special little Yorkie has been chosen Dog of the Week on Dogster! What a cool choice. Babybear is one of these exceptional pups who live with a disability and who are so determined to live life to the fullest. Yep, I admit it; we have a very soft spot in our doggy heart for Babybear. He is definitely one of my heros.
Babybear has AAI and tells all about it on his page. Go check it out!
