Arrival Story:
We were looking for a companion for our senior dog, Toby. We had raised Toby and Tugger together from puppies and Tugger had passed away earlier in the year at age 13. They were from the same litter and inseparable. Since Toby had always been the submissive dog we did not want a puppy that would be dominant and make him unhappy in his senior years. Bailey turned out to be the perfect choice. From the time he came to our house at 8 weeks he always deferred to Toby giving him kisses each morning and following him around during the day. As Toby got older and his sight and hearing lessened Bailey took over for him. He would always run and nudge Toby if Toby was in another room and something was happening. When we went for walks on the beach and Toby lagged behind and then got confused, Bailey would run back and nudge him to get him going in the right direction. I think that Bailey made Toby's last two and a half years much more enjoyable and Bailey learned a lot about being a dog from Toby. I have included a picture of them together.

Conehead continued

I am still wearing my cone but my eye is much better. I go back to the vet tomorrow morning so I am hoping it will be "cone be gone". I actually have been quite good, much to my pawrents surprise. When my dad holds my shoulders I stand quietly and let my mom put the drops right in my eye. It never hurts to keep them on their toes. Then they never know what's coming next. I have been getting some pretty good treats for being so good so it hasn't been all bad. Now if I could only figure out a way to stop running into things.

Conehead

I haven't written in my diary for quite a while. I think I need a new secretary. Things have been going fairly well until last night. My eyes were really swollen and my third eyelid was up over my eyeball so I looked like a devil dog. Since my eyes are sensitive my mom first thought it was probably the sealant my dad was using on the windows or the onions she was using at supper but when she opened all the windows and turned on the air exchanger and all the fresh air didn't help she got worried. My mom is definitely a worry wart and she can turn any little ailments we have into a major illness (in her mind). She slept on the couch with me last night and off to the vet first thing this morning. Apparently I have a scratch on my cornea and probably just some general irritation from rubbing my eyes. So now I have to have drops in my eyes twice a day and I am a conehead until Saturday. The drops will be quite the affair since I am an accomplished squirmer and screamer. She will probably win but I will make a fight of it. Check out my latest pictures.

Do I stink or what!

Well today I got my spring grooming and I certainly am a lot lighter. It is a good thing it is warm here today or I would probably have to wear my coat. My real reason for writing today is to tell the great thing that happened yesterday at the beach. We were wandering along the shore when a whiff of something caught my attention and when I went to investigate it was a real treasure, a dead seal carcass. So what did I do. I rolled on it of course. I mean I really squirmed on it. My mom started screaming at me to get away but the good thing was she didn't really want to get too close so that gave me extra time before she came over and dragged me away. Then she threw a stick to get me in the ocean and to try to clean me off. We continued on our walk and my mom decided that we would take a different route back to avoid the seal. We did that but once again I got a whiff and you guessed it, another dead seal. Roll, roll, roll, squirm, sqirm, squirm, boy what a day. I really don't see why mom's just don't get it. She was really angry this time and she took me right home and gave me a cold bath in the yard. I still think it was worth it. By the way for today's walk she kept me on a leash until we were well past the seal. Party pooper!!
