Likes: playing with his ball, walking on the beach, playing his new game with a stick

Pet-Peeves: strangers coming into the yard, Oliver stealing his toys

Favorite Toy: ball, squeaky plush toy, any stick

Favorite Food: cookies from the Happy Hounds Gourmutt bakery

Favorite Walk: Rainbow Haven beach

Arrival Story: We were looking for a companion for our senior dog, Toby. We had raised Toby and Tugger together from puppies and Tugger had passed away earlier in the year at age 13. They were from the same litter and inseparable. Since Toby had always been the submissive dog we did not want a puppy that would be dominant and make him unhappy in his senior years. Bailey turned out to be the perfect choice. From the time he came to our house at 8 weeks he always deferred to Toby giving him kisses each morning and following him around during the day. As Toby got older and his sight and hearing lessened Bailey took over for him. He would always run and nudge Toby if Toby was in another room and something was happening. When we went for walks on the beach and Toby lagged behind and then got confused, Bailey would run back and nudge him to get him going in the right direction. I think that Bailey made Toby's last two and a half years much more enjoyable and Bailey learned a lot about being a dog from Toby. I have included a picture of them together.

Well today I got my spring grooming and I certainly am a lot lighter. It is a good thing it is warm here today or I would probably have to wear my coat. My real reason for writing today is to tell the great thing that happened yesterday at the beach. We were wandering along the shore when a whiff of something caught my attention and when I went to investigate it was a real treasure, a dead seal carcass. So what did I do. I rolled on it of course. I mean I really squirmed on it. My mom started screaming at me to get away but the good thing was she didn't really want to get too close so that gave me extra time before she came over and dragged me away. Then she threw a stick to get me in the ocean and to try to clean me off. We continued on our walk and my mom decided that we would take a different route back to avoid the seal. We did that but once again I got a whiff and you guessed it, another dead seal. Roll, roll, roll, squirm, sqirm, squirm, boy what a day. I really don't see why mom's just don't get it. She was really angry this time and she took me right home and gave me a cold bath in the yard. I still think it was worth it. By the way for today's walk she kept me on a leash until we were well past the seal. Party pooper!!

Oh my dog!!! This morning was so exciting. We went for our beach walk and afterwards my mom stopped at the mailbox and found a card to pick up a parcel at the post office and whose name was on it. Bailey that's who. I got a present from my girl Cindy. Of course there were two braid toys and two pig's ears so one of each was probably for Oliver but it had my name on it. This is one of the best days of my life and I will share with Oliver, just not yet. Thanks Cindy and Cindy's mom. You are the definitely the best!!!!

Well Christmas is over and I have some great presents. I had been checking my Christmas bag under the tree every chance I got to make sure it was still there and this morning I finally got to get my stuff. Great cookies, some pigs ears and squeaky toys, who could ask for anything more. However this has not been a great week. We didn't have any power from late Sunday night until early Tuesday morning and it is cold in Nova Scotia. Luckily we have a wood stove to keep us warm but we don't have a generator to run a pump so we had no water. We were happy and back to normal on Tuesday but then we had a second storm and we lost our power again until late Christmas eve. I don't think power means as much to dogs as it does to humans because my mom and dad were definitely ticked off. Now it looks like there is another storm coming this weekend. Oh well as long as I have my presents, I'm happy!!!
