Hi, it's been a long time since I made an entry in my diary my secretary has been busy-it's hard to get good help :). This is a copy of an email Mom sent to my Aunt Kathie in TX.

"Ranger was blooded this morning he has joined LT as a killer. [LT killed a mouse in 2002 and has been waiting for another chance ever since].(LT-Little Tigger is a cat and a cool dude at that. editor)
Recently for various speculated reasons rats have moved into our neighborhood. The favorite is all of the habitat destruction due to slash and burn development near here has sent a pack of displaced desert rats into the surrounding sub-divisions and the Country Club especially the golf course another speculation is the got washed out of the washes in our unusually heavy mosoon-but who knows.
I was talking to one of my neighbors from across the street yesterday evening and he was detailing all of the variety of traps he and his daughter have set to no avail and he went on to say they had ordered some super rat traps off the internet.
OK, you know where this is going right?
I knew the rat/s were in our backyard too because I’d seen the little varmint/s.
Ernie and Ranger have been stalking it/them for a couple of weeks now, but were unable to unearth it/them [as it turns out there are at least 2] because they were holing up in a utility box that houses the in ground watering system.
Anyway Ranger was really wound up and was pointing, yes he has hunting dog in him maybe the Lab component of his gene pool, any how I joined him and flushed the little beast and he caught it right outside of the box. Dead rat. It is entombed in a plastic bag in the garbage can in the garage now. But, he wasn’t calmed and kept dancing around the patio so I got the hose and turned it on jet and stuck it in the opening at one end of the box and out flew another rat. But, because Ranger is a total chicken when it comes to water he wasn’t close enough and the rat beat feet into a huge bush and escaped. However, I got some big heavy rocks [living in AZ does have its advantages plenty of rocks] and blocked off both entrances to box. So, it is only a mater of time until Killer strikes again."

That was last week I got the other one over the weekend! Now our yard is rat free! Mom thinks I am the greatest.

RANGERS LEAD THE WAY!

P.S. Ernie killed a bird. Big deal. Mom thinks I am hero she yelled at Ernie. :)
The cool thing about Ernie and birds is snaps them right out of the air-but we know ---bird vrs. rat do the math. ;)

Beware of Strange Cats

There is this really sweet lady who lives behind us over the fence [the gray one] named Anne. Anne is from Australia and has a funny way of talking but she really know how to scratch behind ears. Well, anyhow, she has a black cat named Sam. Sam wanders around their backyard on a retractable lead attached to a little concrete block. Now Sam, being a cat is stubborn and tenacious, so he dragged his weight thing over to the fence and jump over, [Miss Anne was inside for just a moment.] He couldn't go anywhere 'cause he was "at the end of his rope" [tee hee hee]. So being a good host I went over to say hi and he ATTACKED me! In my own yard! Mom and Miss Anne heard the fuss and ran out and Sam went back over the fence and I went inside.

Mom pulled 2 cat claw sheaths out of my muzzle and cleaned the scratches and put yucky stuff on them. She kissed me and gave me a treat for not biting Sam or fighting back at all. Mom and Miss Anne think I am the best dog in the world. They think I didn't take Sam out with one powerful snap of my jaws because I am such a good dog. Well, I am, but the real reason is I live with 2 really sweet cats and Jessica [J. is a not sweet cat!] and I would never be able to look them in the eye, have them rub against my head when I'm lying down, or touch noses with them if I killed one of their kind for being scared. Although to be honest the thought did have some appeal when the little fur creep was clawing my face. :) ^..^

Good Day in the Morning

I'm a little cranky 'cause mom has bronchitis and isn’t feeling well, I don’t mean I’m cranky with mom. I’ll take really good care of me like she took care of me last week when I was sick from eating something. We went to the vet and I got some pills mom buried in peanut butter-yum. And she petted me and snuggled me and let me sit most of me in her lap [she does that a lot]. So, what I’m cranky about is not going out in the desert this morning.

Ernie is improving. I go outside and play with him some now. He’s calming down some and chillin’ out. I guess he’ll do. He’s not really a bad guy.

Hooah! Rangers lead the way. :)

I don't know what got into our mom, but without discussing it with Katie, the cats, & me adopted Ernie. Ernie is a Greyhound, and I don't know why she adopted him. I mean, he's ok, but we were just fine without him. I think adding another member of the fur family should be by consensus not an arbitrary decision by mom. But, I think he’s here to stay. I guess we’ll have to get used to it. She promised us no more dogs or cats.

I am really glad it's fall a.k.a. hiking season in southeast AZ. We love to go hiking up the canyons and into the moutains. There are different critters and scents up there than down here on the valley floor. This time of year there are less bugs and early in the morning the snakes are still sleeping.
