Arrival Story:
I was in search of a dog. I wasn't sure what I was looking for, but I knew that when I saw her I would know that she was *the one*. I went in to our local pet store where they were having a dog adoption day, and there she was! Her sweet face was pleading "take me home with you!" I filled out the paperwork and she was mine! The rescue lady was already calling her "Heidi" so I just kept name. Her adoption package came with a coupon for a free vet check, so I made an appointment for the following day. There the vet told me that she was pregnant and that he thought she had distemper and advised that I return he r to the animal shelter. I was devastated. I was already in love with her and knew if I sent her back she would be put down. But I also didn't want spend a lot of money and loose her anyway. In tears, I called the adoption lady and told her what the vet had said. She asked if he had performed a distemper test. When I told her "no" she said that she would pay for it since she was sick when I got her. The test came back negative - it was just a respiratory infection. Heidi received some medicine and was soon on the mend. She gave birth to the pups a couple of weeks later. However, due to a combination of malnutrition, her illness, and the medication, none of the pups made it. As soon as she was healthy, I had her spayed. Heidi was totally devoted to me from day one.

Bio:
Heidi liked everyone if the family, but she was definitely *my* dog. She was wary of strangers, probably due to her past. She had been picked up as a stray. After she knew you, it was okay. Heidi passed away in Febrary of 2004. I miss her!!
