The cat ("Radar")

Best Tricks:
Shake, though that's the only trick he readily listens to.. It's far more remarkable if you can get him to obey a "sit" or "lay down" command.

Arrival Story:
My dad and I adopted him from the Marin Humane Society when I was 6, almost 7. Pepper was 1 year old at the time and named "Fesler".. yeah, like we would keep that name. We sometimes call him Fesler these days when he's being particularly sulky or difficult. He was rated as good for children 8+, friendly, socialized, and eager to please.. Talk about mis-represented! Throughout his entire life he has loathed other dogs, despised all children (excepting your's truly), been stubborn, and vindictive. But that's what makes him so wonderful!

Bio:
When we first got Pepper, he had some food aggression (I say some.. but when I was little he would chase me from the room if I even looked around the corner into the kitchen while he was eating), which he still has today but to a much lesser extent (typically only growls if Radar or Buddy goes near his bowl). Despite our rocky beginning, I quickly became Pepper's favorite person, though he has maintained a strong dislike for little people. Pepper also has learned to get along with other dogs, in fact, he rather likes having dog friends, once he has finished hazing them. In his life Pepper has been stolen twice and run over once (by a big rig, but he was between the tires so miraculously escaped unharmed), and has suffered multiple foxtail injuries (including having them up his nose, in his eyes, between his pads, and in his ears) despite our tireless efforts to rid the entire neighborhood of them and pick them off our dogs after walks. However, he has happily reached his old age and despite some slight hearing and vision loss he is rather healthy (though that doesn't stop him from being a crotchety old fart whenever possible.. it's all said out of endearment). To date, Pepper's absolute favorite thing in the world has been cats! Or more precisely, cats that like dogs. The highlight of his old age right now is our young cat Radar. She and Pepper will spend hours playing tag or wrestling, and nothing makes Pepper quite as happy as a good romp with the cat. Although Pepper has been an "interesting" character throughout most of his life, I consider all his traits endearing and I have gained a great affection for older dogs, now that Pepper himself is a senior.
