Arrival Story: Anna was offered to me by a lady I met at the soccer field when I was there with Niko - she told me she had this Weimaraner she did not want any more and she wanted her to go to a home that was familiar with Weims and could deal with them. She had always owned labs, but had purchased Anna from a pet store that was getting closed down in Phoenix for some violation issue, partly as a "rescue" (Anna was 4 months old and VERY skinny - they named her Ana because she looked anorexic), partly as a pet for her husband who had always wanted a Weim. So the husband was in the miliary and traveled most of the time, leaving the wife to "deal" with Anna - they had never done any training (Anna did not even know her name), and she was always getting in trouble (she tried to run away a lot). I wasn't really looking for another dog, but how could I say no? We went to their house and met Anna a couple of times, then we took her in March of 2003.

Bio: Anna was a challenge at first - one and a half years old and *no* manners. She was a great cuddler, though, and had the sweetest heart. We went through major obedience training with her and got her crate trained, what a difference that made! She's very different than Niko, though. Nobody ever played with her as a pup, so she's not interested in toys or fetching. The back of our yard drops off into a natural desert area, so she's our "watchout" - she loves to watch the desert for any animals passing by. She loves to cuddle at your side when you're watching TV.
Anna & Niko had a litter of 6 puppies in September 2003. She was a good mama. We went through a lot of screening to find the puppies good homes - we wanted people to understand what they were getting.
Anna came down with a Nasal Aspergillosis infection in October 2004 (which is a fungus abundant in nature, the infections are not commonly seen in Arizona). It took a while to diagnose, so by the time we had a diagnosis, she was having severe nose bleeds. If left untreated she certainly would have died. She was treated from November 2004 through January 2005 by an excellent vet team, she was a trooper and she pulled through it.
She's been healthy since then, although she is kind of "sneezy" - the vet said this is to be expected from the amount of permanent damage that was caused by the infection inside her head. I think she loves life more than ever since she feels so much better.
