Puppy Training: Day 1

Our Angel in Heaven

Belle Pepper became our guardian angel on July 14, 2010, after a brief battle with leukemia. After finding odd spots all over her body, she was admitted to an emergency overnight hospital and given multiple tests. We later learned she had leukemia. She was given two weeks max to live. She lived only two more days. Our beautiful, loyal, and loving Belle Pepper is very much in our hearts and minds every day, even though she is not physically with us. There isn't a day where I don't feel both happy and sad--happy because I remember the cute things she did and sad because she is no longer here. We love and miss you with all our heart, Belle Pepper, and we miss you more than you could ever know.

Puppy Training: Day 1

Even though I've only had Belle for 2 1/2 weeks now, the changes in her are so obvious. She's getting bigger, eating more, and most importantly it seems like she's growing up and learning a lot (knock on wood). She's less clumsy and more coordinated. She is getting better at being alone and she's made some progress (despite a few minor setbacks) w/ the whole housetraining thing.

Today was our first day attending Petco's Puppy Class. Initially, we were worried at how she'd react because every encounter she has w/ a dog thus far seems to agitate her. However, when we let her off her leash today, it was like watching her grow up before our very eyes. She was very playful and social w/ the other puppies. At times, she was a leader and at times, she learned to just go w/ the flow. While she wasn't exactly the most well behaved, she held her own. She even managed to keep her cool when some loud barking, overly energetic dogs were wreaking havoc on every other puppy in the class.
All in all, I'd say it was a great 1st class. It was nice to see what we have done right as far as training. More importantly, however, it was good to know what we haven't been doing right so we know how to improve.
