Arrival Story:
I wasn't really looking for a puppy, I prefer older less adoptable dogs, as the last two we adopted from the SPCA were. Lola, she was named Dizzy at the time, just decided we were her people, and that we needed to take her home right then. What an experience that was, not only did she get carsick, but she had Giardia too boot. After taking her the Vet at the SPCA and a round of antibiotics, she was just fine and ready to rock and roll. They told us she was a Shephard mix, sorry but there is no Shepard in her at all. After doing a bit of research, we have come to realize that she is mostly Ridgeback and definately an alpha. Ridgebacks are very active dogs and don't calm down as soon as other dogs, so I took her swimming every single day until it was too cold for the pump to run. It was the only way any of us could get any sleep, cause if she wasn't tired no-one else could be either.

Bio:
Lola is absolutely the smartest dog I have ever had. After she got over the Giardia, (intestinal parasite-causes symptoms like Parvo), she was the easiest dog to house train and other than chomping on a couple things she shouldn't have, she has never been a real problem. Well, except for the door opening thing. Yup, she learned how to open all the doors in the house. Even the front and back doors, but the Invisible Fence we had installed put an end to that escapade. My only real problem with her is that she really does intimidate other people. She really wants to be friendly, but since she's rather large, 80 lbs, and has a huge bark, so most people are very wary of her. Funny thing is Ridgebacks have a very strong flight response, so she'll run-away before she let's anyone she doesn't know get close to her.
