The Dog Days of Summer

Back From Hybernation!

Man! I can't believe this summer is almost over and I haven't posted yet! Bad Rubi! Bad! But, please forgive me as I have been a VERY busy girl!!

Let's see....where to begin....hmmmm.....

In the winter time, Mommy and Daddy put up this thing they called a "Cwistmus Twee" and put a bunch of boxes underneath. They hung this red thing that looked like a boot, and I wanted to do was Eat It!!! They kept telling me that Santa wasn't going to put in any treats for me if I kept doing that. Even tho I have NO idea who Santa is, I obeyed. Then we woke up one morning and all of a sudden there were Bones, and Treats, and Toys, and more Treats, and More Toys!!!! WOW!!! Whoever this Santa guy is, I hope he comes back cuz that was FUN!

Then a little while later, Mom made this big deal about something about my Birthday. Didn't understand that either, but again, I got more treats and toys to play with. Mom was going to have a Birthday party for me that weekend, at the dog run in our neighborhood. She was going to fix treat bags for all my friends. But, the day after all my new toys arrived I woke up that morning and couldn't walk. I tried to stretch it out, but I kept falling over. I went outside to potty and fell over again. Mom was so worried about me, she made me start to worry. I didn't know what was wrong with me, but Mom made sure that I took it easy and then we went to see that Doctor guy and he told her my Hips were getting worse and that I needed to be on cage rest for 6 weeks and will probably need surgery after that! WHAT?!!!! WHOA!! UH UH! Aint doin that, I said! You gonna keep me locked up for how long?! What the heck did I do?!

Well, needless to say, Momma said it was best for me, so again...I obeyed. I HATED that Crate! The entire 6 weeks, Kitty would walk by and make fun of me and stick her Butt in my face!! Then, I started to feel all better. Mom was still convinced that my hips were bad and took me to get "X-ways". She took the whole day off work because she was so worried that I was going to need surgery.

But then the Special Doctor told her that my Xways were still showing my left hip deteriorating. BUT.....I DONT NEED SURGERY!! (Well, atleast for Right now) Hey...I can deal with that! He told her to look into Physical Therapy. So she did!!

I LUV PHYSICAL THERAPY! I've been to a few sessions and it's kinda neat what they do with me. They put me in a tank (which took me a few tries to get used to, but they were surprised how quickly I caught on!...Hey, what do u expect...I'm a BOXER!) Then they filled it up with water and the ground below me started moving and I had to walk for 10 minutes in the water. The Physical Therapist Lady, Lisa, gave Mom and Dad some fun exercises for me to do Everyday to build up my muscles, including extra fun walks Everyday!!

I'm so excited that I get to do all these fun things. I will be sure to tell you all about my Physical Therapy, as it's Really Really Neat and I love the little treats they give me. I usually drop them right in the water and when I'm ready for a snack during my workout, I take a nibble.

So, that's it, that's what I've been up to and why I've been too busy to write. Hope you will forgive me.

Well, off to do my Dance exercises with Mommy. I LUV these. Mom thinks I look so silly doing em, but really she's the one who looks like a goofball and makes sucha fuss! When will she ever learn!

One Last Trip Before the Winter!

Sorry I didn't write about my trip I took a couple of weekends ago. I've been so busy, that I've just been too worn out to even think. I know . . . bad dog!!
Mom & Dad took me to go see my pal Koho in Maryland for the weekend. It was great! They both took off work on Friday and decided to get in the car and drive up to see the family. I got to stay at great-grandma's house and play with Koho. She's a BIIIIIG boxer and is 6 years old!
She came running out to greet me and we played, non-stop the entire weekend! It was so cool to see my cousin again. The last time I saw her, I was only 3 months old and just as big as her hind leg. (see pic above of me and her laying on the bed - sad, isn't it!!) NOW, I'm 8 months old and taller than she is! (she still has me in weight, though!!)
The entire family came over for dinner and I got to hang out with my grandmas and grandpas! Mom's mommy just loves me to pieces and kept calling me "Rubi-doobie". Mom thought it was pretty cute and has been calling me that ever since! Great!!! (rolling the eyes)
The best part, is that with all the glucosamine and the extra care Mom & Dad have taken of me, I did just fine with my hips. Mom, as usual, worried about me the whole time and kept trying to get me to calm down. But, I was ready to go and even after we got home, still felt good (although, a little tired!).
So, they realized that I'm doing pretty good and have been back to letting me play with my pal in the building, Maci. (another boxer/mix about a year old) It's been so good to get out and see my friends again. I hope they let me get out to play with Maci tomorrow. Her and I have score to settle about my tennis ball that she stole from me!! I plan on getting it back by any means possible!
Later Gators! Rubi

My Summer Vacation . . .

Usually, wherever Mom & Dad go, I go! But, they had been talking about how they were going to the beach and worried if I was going to be allowed to stay with them. They found out that I was not going to be able to go and started looking for fun resorts for me to stay while they went on their vacation.
So, last weekend I went on my own vacation to a fun little puppy resort that was going to let me go out and play as much as I wanted to, gave me a nice cushy bed to sleep on at night and the people were so, so nice! I had so much fun there! In the afternoon, they came into the building, turned out all the lights, played some classical music, turned down the AC and let us all take a nap for a little while! It was SO AWESOME!! It was like my own doggie-day-spa. I was so relaxed and felt so good, all I needed was a massage and I was GOLDEN!!
The best part was being with so many other beautiful boxers! There were like 7 others there, but I was definitely the prettiest one there! :)
Mom & Dad made sure that I had my favorite blanket and my squeeky potato head toy with me, so that I could still feel like I was at home.
The girls at the resort were so nice. My folks had told them about my hips and that, although it was so much fun to be around all the other dogs, I was not allowed to play with them during "open" play-time. Which was really kind of a drag, but worked out nicely because I got to go out and play on all the cool doggie jungle gyms ALL BY MYSELF! Then they took me out for "Nature Walks", like Mom & Dad do!
When it came time for them to come pick me up, I was sad, but so tired!! This nice lady came and told me that my Mommy & Daddy were here to get me and I got soooo excited that I started jumping all around my kennel. When I saw Mommy & Daddy, I wiggled right over to them and then right towards the car!! I was ready to go home!!
I totally crashed when I got home! Mommy kept telling me how much she missed me, but all I could do was do my best to make her feel guilty for every moment of it! But, really, deep down inside . . . . I was ready to go back the next day!!!!
So, that was My Summer Vacation. It was short, but sweet (only a weekend), but just about as much time I could stand to be away from Mom & Dad. Although I had so much fun, I hope the next time they take a vacation, I get to go. But, if not, I think I'd like to go back to the Doggie Spa! I know I made some friends there and I'm sure there will be some other cool dogs to hang around, too!
