Arrival Story:
Six years ago my only furbaby was Teddy, an Old English Sheepdog. My two, two-legged kids and I loved Bassets and wanted to get a smaller dog for Teddy as a playmate. So we got Clyde as a pup. What a cutie, but definitely not small. I guess we forgot that short and small are not synonymous! Anyway Teddy and Clyde were the best of buddies; they would even clean each others ears! A year ago, Clyde was beside himself with grief when Teddy, at age twelve got cancer and went to the bridge. Clyde started to arroooo for the first time whenever we left the house. It was sooooo sad. Then while we were at the vet with Teddy saying goodbye, Clyde got up on a table, found Teddy's new unopened bottle of Rymadil, opened it up, took out the cotton and ate thirty of the sixty tablets. We call it his suicide attempt. Thankfully, I found him after only a half an hour and it was back to the vets office. I thought I was about to lose them both in a day, but Clyde was fine after a week at the hospital on IVs. I wasn't really ready for another dog, but Clyde was so sad that we got get him another Basset puppy; a sweet, red and white male that we called Baby Clifford (I didn't understand then about rescues). My daughter was leaving for college and I think I needed Baby Clifford as much as Clyde did. Anyway we were all doing great when several months later, a friend called found a skinny Basset, without tags, running around on a country road following behind a couple of old mangy guys. The other two ran off when she stopped but the basset, just sat down in the middle of the street and wagged his tail. She picked him up and brought him to me to keep till we found his home or found him a home. I couldn't believe such a beautiful soulful dog wasn't being missed. We couldn't find any sign of his people. My son named him Craig Longfellow because he is sooo long and he has such long ears. Clifford and Craig played well together but Clyde had become somewhat of a grumpus and wasn't thrilled with another hound in his house. I absolutely fell in LOVE with this dog like I had never loved another. He is a clown and a kisser and he makes me laugh all the time. He is always busy with his toys and thinks he is a retriever. Judi, Mom to Clyde, Clifford and Craig Longfellow.

Bio:
Two dogs is one thing but three dogs becomes a pack. They were wild. They would do the Basset 500 and get into everything! My boyfriend said "enough is enough". He started to make the mistake of saying "its me of the dogs". Thankfully, he came to his senses and helped me to put a few new procedures in place. Clifford had been sleeping in Clyde's old crate, so we got two more crates and put them opened in an enclosed "dog area" off the kitchen. I work from home, but if I couldn't actually be watching them or playing with them, they'd go outside into their big fenced yard or into their indoor space. In the evenings they hang with us and watch TV or whatever until bedtime when they'd go out for an evening pee and then go to bed. Even Clyde, who use to have a free reign of terror, had to buckle down and follow the new rules. Thing is. . . all the the boys seem to really like the new structure. At bedtime, or whenever I want them to go to their space, I say " Go to your house and I'll get you a cookie" and they go running in there, turn around and sit down in a row and wait for their treat. Clyde use to be a kamikaze peer and pooper. At least twice a week, he would disappear for a few minutes and crap somewhere. He hardly ever does that anymore. It has been six or seven months now with the three hounds. And I have been amazed that as much as I love or have loved all the other dog boys in my life, it is Craig the scrappy rescue hound that got has me the most.

Thank Goodness for New Tricks - Blogging for Biscuits

My human started a new business this year because of my blog here on Dogster. Several years ago she put the name of her construction company into Google and what came up numero uno ( hehehe, that's Spanish for number one!) Well she did not find it amusing. She asked her friends what was that about and they told her that of course that would be expected since Dogster is a blog and Search Engines just love blogs.

Since my human, Judi, couldn't put her construction company on Dogster she went ahead and started a WordPress blog and learned all about it. Now that construction isn't what it use to be, it is okay. I still have my bet biscuits and plenty of chow because Judi started a company called New Tricks, with her friend Dene, all about making Blogs and using Social Media. They are really busy making blogs for people. Their motto is, "It's never too late to be best of breed!" Aren't they clever?
If you want a blog too so you can buy good biscuits, they can make you one too. Contact New Tricks at http://www.newtricks.me

Obama's Cabinet Picks

Here at the Krog Street Hound Ranch we are really interested in who President Elect Obama is going to elect as First Dog. I don't think I he has filled the position yet. I think he must be saving the best for last. He has made some great choices so far so we have high hopes for his First Dag selection. He should consider an Old English Sheepdog since they don't shed. I never knew Teddy but he was lead dog around here when Clyde was just a pup. Clyde has told us all about him and I see his pictures. Clyde was so upset when he passed that he got Teddy's bottle of Rymdyl and ate half of them. When judi came home she found the bottle of Rymdyl with only thirty of the sixty tablets left in the new bottle that was on the floor. Clyde ended up in the Dog Hospital for a week. Anyway, after Clyde got better Clifford came to live at Krog Street to keep Clyde company. He was happier then. He was really happy when I came to live there. So Obama might want to check out Sheepdogs. A sheepdog would be really great romping on the lawn of the RoseGarden. PS. Judi just blogged about Dogster here: www.blogbyknight.com.

I have been a very very lazy dog

It has been a long time since I blogged here. I have had a lot going on with my two other dog boys and my two-legged pack leaders. That little Clifford has grown up and he is starting to be a food bully. When Judi brings our food, she feeds Old Man Clyde right inside the see through doors and then she puts Clifford's and my bowls right outside the see through doors. Clifford real quick picks one of the bowls and gobbles down a couple of big bites then while I am meandering over to the blows, he runs over to the other bowl and starts chowing on that one. I just let him since he is so intent on getting a little extra. I just can't be bothered to get so bent out of shape about mealtime. Besides, later on I can always go get a snack in the pantry since I know how to stand up on my hind legs and get into the cat's food. Poor Clifford can't reach it. Hee hee hee. . .
