~~An"D" came to live/love with us here in Florida when he was 3 months old. Already the quiet, gentle soul, He was the perfect candidate for Pet Therapy work. At the age of 6 months, An'D" was enrolled in Basic Obedience School, then later He moved up to Novice Obedience School. Nursing Home visitations, Kindergarden visitations, Hospital visitations became His "way of life". A few T.V. appearances brought Him to the attention of certain persons that had instigated a "Paws to Read" program here in town. This program was based upon the principle that Children that are ordinarily shy and ashamed to get up in front of the class to read will read to a dog, as dogs do not laugh, do not discriminate. An'D" recieved letters from the children that He helped durring that time for many years after the "Paws to Read" program was completed. Pet Fairs and Parades with My An"D" were regular events. AN"D" became the mentor here at home for the many foster dogs that passed thru on their way to a "forever home". He be-friended them, He gently but firmly showed them the ropes, and taught them that it was safe to love again . An"D" started limping 2 months ago~~He was put on medication for arthritis. The limping stopped for several weeks. I was still suspicious and kept searching for any sign of a lump on His legs. 3 days ago, the lump showed up. x-rays showed the classic picture of Osteosarcoma. Osteosarcoma is an evil desease~there is no cure~~by the time that a lump is discovered , the cancer has spread to other parts of the body. Some persons "opt" for a holding pattern with amputation and chemotherapy which will give the dog a few more months of life. But, what type of life will be given ? Osteosarcomo is the most painful of all the cancers~~~the animal will live out the remainder of It's life healing from the amputation, and undergoing chemo~~Not My An"D"~~An'D" is now "at the bridge"~~He waits for the rest of His family. Have fun my An'D" ~~~ run and play ~~~until We meet again~~ There is a new star in the heavens now. Pam C This is a special Tail of Devotion
