My people!

Being put in my "condo" (Mommy's silly word for my crate) when it's not yet bedtime; having my face washed. At first I didn't like the car — riding in it made me nervous, but now I'm very relaxed.

Any walk is a good walk, though I really prefer doing zoomies on grass lawns to going for walks.

Best Tricks:
High five; Speak; I can give either my right or left paw just by seeing which hand you hold out. My brothers and sisters and I all dance (please see my diary entry on 9/5/05)

Arrival Story:
Bijou is the culmination of 11 years of longing for another Standard Poodle after the death of Cherie. By the time she passed away, I was living on my own in a strictly no-pets apartment building, and my parents traveled a lot and didn't think it was fair to have to kennel a dog for long periods of time. So lifestyle prevented it until recently, when I finally found an apartment that allowed dogs — including big ones — and was large enough to hold a Standard comfortably. From the time I moved in here, I was searching for breeders who were reputable and truly loved their dogs. The timing also had to be right for the litter, as we couldn't take in a puppy until my parents were home from one of their long vacations, so they could provide puppy daycare while I work. When I finally learned, by referral, of a litter of black puppies that was expected in July and would be ready to go home in October, I immediately contacted June Thompson of Coronado Poodles, the fantastic breeder who brought Bijou into my life. We emailed each other regularly, and I'm now proud to consider her a friend as well as the source for my perfect little jewel.

My full name is Coronado's Bijou de la Couronne, which means Coronado's Crown Jewel. To see my Mama, you can go to .html or just (the breeder says Mama's a "cover girl" on the web page, but I'm not sure what that means; it must be special though).

After being away far too long, I'm back at Dogster. Many months too long!

You see, tomorrow is a special day for me: it's my 1st barkday, and Mommy asked me how I wanted to celebrate. I told her I miss all my Dogster friends very much, so all I wanted is to come back here and say hello to everyone I love.

But things seem a little different than I remember them. Sniffing around the Dogster Plus forums, I don't catch the scent of some of the old gang I always used to; where are Francis Rocks and Poncho? I see they still have profiles on Dogster and update their diaries, so they must be here. And what about my dear old friend LulaBelle Grace? I sent her a rosette, but I don't see her around. I hope she's okay. On the other hand, I did get a note from George Underwood and Abby Nayeli, both of whom I'm SOOOO happy to see again. And there are some nice new doggies in the forums, so I'm happy to meet them too.

Being a BIG girl now, I make sure things are safe for my humans. For example, the other day, I was patrolling the back yard of the grandma and grandpa humans. And I found something really neat — the grandpa human called it "a dead rat, complete with maggots!" I don't know what a rat or maggots are, but he must have been very proud of me to protect his yard from something like that, because he took it away immediately and threw it into the trash. Okay, I was a little sad, because it was fun to play with. But I know I did a good job patrolling.

Mommy laughed at me today, but I'm not sure why. We were in the elevator, and when she told me to sit, I made a funny noise from my behind. She asked me "Bijou, did you do that?" Since she didn't seem sure, I thought I'd better check, so I turned around and sniffed. Yup, I'm pretty sure it came from back there! Mommy almost fell over laughing when I did that. Hey, she asked the question right?

After both these incidents, Mommy said "Bijou, you may look like a princess, but you're definitely all dog!" Now what's that supposed to mean? Of course I'm a dog! Silly humans.

Hey, if you have a chance, check out the short movie Mommy made starring ME at the dog park! My friend Banners is in it too!

Well, it's time to get some sleep so I'm well rested for my big barkday tomorrow. Bye for now!

Oh boy, another long time between diary entries! I've been so busy living my life, I haven't been bothering to bark about it.

What fun I had yesterday! Savannah's mommy and mine arranged a play date for us at the Sierra Madre dog park! Though it was my first time at a dog park, the best part was finally getting to meet my online friend, now my real friend! Savannah's mommy laughed and said I bounce. I guess I was a little excited by the whole thing.

Mommy and I got there first, so while we waited for them, Mommy introduced me in the big-dog area. I was pretty scared. I mean, so many dogs all trying to sniff my backside at the same time! But I started to get excited when I saw some doggies had toys, and I loosened up a little.

Then Savannah and her mommy and daddy showed up, and we moved to the other part of the park, where we ran around mostly by ourselves. There was a lab there too at first, then towards the end a couple of mini doxies showed up. But I had the best time running after Savannah! I hope we can do that again soon. Silly Mommy forgot her camera.

Now, I'm still trying to understand this thing I keep hearing about called "Christmas." I mean, suddenly there are all kinds of lights everywhere, and Mommy and the grandma and grandpa humans planted a tree in the family room of the grandma and grandpa humans' house. Then they put lights and stuff on that too. I think they were afraid I'd want to pull the whole thing down, but I only sniff at it once in a while. However, this cute little green box under the tree smells kind of yummy. It looks like the containers that I have seen Chinese food in, but it definitely doesn't smell like Chinese food! I heard Mommy telling the grandma human that the boyfriend of a girl she works with made homemade doggy cookies, and that's what's in the neat little package. So when do I get to taste one? I mean, I'm the only doggy around, so what are they waiting for? And why put my cookies under a tree? Will more cookies grow there too? If so, I guess I can be patient and wait for that!

Last week, Mommy took me out one night, and she brought me to a funny, nice man in a red suit. She asked me to sit next to him, so I was a good girl and sat very pretty while another man did the thing with the flashy box stuck to his face like Mommy does so often. Both men were both really nice to me, and Mommy seemed very happy because the man with the flashy box gave her a small silver frisbee-looking thing that Mommy says has pictures of me with the red-suit man. She kept calling him Santa. She put the frisbee thing in her computing machine, and now one of the pictures is here on Dogster. I wish I knew how she makes that happen!

Mommy seemed awfully busy this weekend. She went out in the car a lot, and she took me with her everywhere. I waited in the car mostly, but I noticed there were so many people rushing around, much more than there usually are when I watch out the windows. Everyone was carrying lots of bags. Usually when Mommy comes back to the car with bags, there is something fun and/or tasty inside them for me. Does that mean all those other people have stuff in their bags for me too? If not, who would they be for? Come to think of it, none of them stopped to give me anything. *hrrrrmph*

I will say, everything in my neighborhood looks really pretty these days. And Mommy is promising me that, starting this Friday, we get to spend more time together than usual because she's going to be on something called a "vacation" for eleven days. I don't know what a vacation is, but if Mommy's going to be on top of one, I want to be right there next to her!

Anyway, Mommy told me that not everyone celebrates Christmas, but lots of people celebrate something at this time of year. So she explained that it's nice to say Merry Christmas if we know someone celebrates it, but we can also tell some of our friends "Happy Chanukah" or "Happy Kwanzaa." She said sometimes it's easier to just say "Happy Holidays." So I wish everyone I know (and even those I don't know) VERY Happy Holidays!!
