we're not really trick people...but i do think patti's "give paw" quasi-handshake is pretty darn adorable. Oh, she smiles a lot too. And humps Simon when she's in the mood.

Arrival Story:
It was the first few days of frigid January 2003. I trekked uptown to New York's CACC shelter 2 times and they had killed the dogs I saw on their shelter website and hoped to adopt. Devastated. Went back a 3rd time and saw a little pit bull mix staring at me with almond shaped green eyes, her tongue sticking out through the cage bars. She was nearly 5 months old and in the intensive care unit recovering from emaciation, malnutrition and kennel cough, among other things. The day I came was the day she was preparing for adoption. I had to fight with another couple who wanted her as well. The woman in charge took her out of the cage and Patti ran right past her and the couple, jumped into my arms, smothered me with kisses and wouldnt let go. Shelter said she was a jack russell terrier mix and wouldnt weigh more than 25 pounds...Well 2 years later, she is twice the size and has the jaws of a pit bull! Now she has broken my nose with her enthusiasm, refuses to go vegetarian, and hogs the entire bed, I mean ENTIRE bed, but she is the love of my life! Patti is happy when I'm happy, and sad when I'm down. She loves kids and babies, protects me from night stalkers and creepoids, and totally dispels the pit bull stereotype. Currently holds the title of "Largest Lap Dog" and bats her eyelids at me when I call her name. Seriously could not ask for a cooler, sweeter, more lovable dog. That is why you should...
